I just sommer feel like complaining this morning

Just phoned Toyota to get price for plug leads for my Hilux
Only R1,800.00 per set

This is really crazy, don't Toyota want to sell spares no more, do they try their best to force their clients to rather buy from the spare shops?

The other day I asked for a head gasket set for the Tazz (2E), that was only R1662.00 for a head gasket set. At the end I bought one at the spare shop at something like R220.00 or something.

This is bad news for us, but I think the spare shops just love Toyota's spare prices.

R1,800.00 for a set of plugs leads, I mean, are they made of pure gold or what? :frustrated: :frustrated:

Remember, with any business, and any owner will tell you, you don't sell any item less than 40 - 60% profit. So those prices are normal. Compare any item in the world that is sold, and check the mark-up.

No, that is far more than 40 to 60%. I bet you if I have to import leads it will cost me about R100 per set. This is slightly more profit than 40 or 60%

Got a price for the centre bearing that is on the rear prop shaft.......R2600.00
They are nucking futs

And then again, got the washers for the rear diff @ R11.00 each, take into consideration these are not flat standard washers .Guess they have a huge ape sitting doing the pricing.

Another example and i think it was Cassie, whom said that their batteries are the cheapest.

It does not make sense :eh:

Yup.... by almost R200 IIRC

One thing I will say why I will keep buying their spares (not everything) is that they over engineer it in that supporting components is usually much ticker etc than the pirate parts and outlasts that latter by thousands off km's

I bought a complete set of plug leads with those long extensions for Hound Dog about 3-4 years ago. Price then was R1100, think I got 20-25% discount on them. But it certainly solved the misfiring problem, I had.

Ja Eric, if it was R900 or R1000 I might still buy it, but R1800 for a pair of leads?

Cassie, yes, for some spares. I have seen some Toyota spares like example some mud flaps which were so thin and crappy that I think even the Autozone stuff are better quality.

A friend of mine bought some fog lights for his Prado 150 the other day at some crazy price, they looked the same as the cheap fog lights I first bought for the Aygo at Autozone. The LED fog/DRL lights I now import are far better quality than what the OEM Toyota lights can dream to be.

I think some of the dealers actually sell pirate parts and not the genuine stuff to make a bigger profit.

I think they sell pirate parts to at least sell something. Here by us the whole spare division is two gentleman who are normally bored stiff.

I think the only people who get spares from them are their own workshop.
Maybe that is the tactic; sell the spares at prices nobody wants it, then spares can be 30 sqr meter and 2 people instead of 200 sqr meter and 6 people. And because you only make 10 sales for the month, those 10 sales must pay the salary of the 2 people.

Well got quoted the other day R1600.00 for front brake pads (pads only) on my D4D.
Flipped them the birdie and went to a place i used many times before for my other vechiles.
Ended up with a bill of R900.00 that includeds pads, disc skimmed and labour.
Must be that toyota logo that is so expensive on the parts.

dont solve our problem, but may add some perspective ....

my neighbour has a couple of VW Caddy vans for his business. The petrol model is now out of maintenance plan - thus far not a single service was recorded at over R1500 ...

FIRST serviceoutside of the maintenance plan VW quotes R 2 400 !!!!!!

So he takes it to an idepandant, that has all the VW experience and data readers etc. Quote for the scheduled stuff at the kilos - R 1600 ... so he books it in ....

uhm sorry, sir. The brakes is done, that sthe pads and discs .... one or two more items got added during the day .... R 2 800 !!!!!!!!

Ha Ha, I just heard it all.
Phoned this morning to book the Aygo for its 75k km service.
Lady goes "Oooeh, this is an expensive service"
Me ask "Why, what do they do"
She "mmh, let's see, oooh, they change the fuel filter among others"

The fuel filter (not pump) is......................................
Wait for this ...........................................
R1,900 and something :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: FOR A FUEL FILTER :lmao: :lmao:

I guess it is one of those solid gold filters, must be very effective.

Coincidentally the service plan is only up to 60k km and the fuel filter gets changed only at the next service (75k km)
I am glad we do not have to change this fuel filter and every service.

Ja, my center caps was stolen off my fortuner and toyota wants R500 ex vat for one. I only need 2 but I rather let my rims look #@#$ than pay R1000 which can be used more contructively. However it is not just Toyota, my wife drives a nissan juke and she was qouted R3500 to replace brake pads. I am gonna get the pads and replace them myself

You guys must stop complaining... All I ever hear when I complain is that Toyota has very good resale value.... you'll get that money back when you sell it....

I have an infestation of Amarok promos on my facebook thingum. On chap there bragged that he had to spend 90k on motor rebuild because the Amarok has an issue with gravel roads and it's timing belt pulley. He's so happy with this, he refuses to drive anything other than an Amarok.
Of baie ryk, of baie dom.

Only one answer:

E F I

Will cost about the same (or less) and it is much better than a 4Y Carb!

Alternatively, look at the Golf Carb DIY elsewhere on the forum.

@ Thys,
Ek dink die goeie inruil waarde is lankal nie meer geldig as 'n voertuig al ouer as 15 jaar is nie...[SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES].
Jonger as 10 jaar - beslis.
