Welcome to our forum down in the deep South, where it's currently hot and sunny at the moment! Don't know about the weather in the Western Cape though, those guys have their own private weather patterns :P

Please tell us a bit more about 4x4ing in the UK, and post some pics of your Hilux.

We have a couple of other members there too.

Cheers for the welcome. :) (Posted in here rather than elongating the manuals thread). :D This is, (not the best of shots), the old girl:

We're just starting to get the onset of winter here, so turning a bit nippy. :D Never seem to get enough snow round these parts to test the 4wd in snow though. Over two years and still waiting to give her the first snow traction test. :D

Since that pic above was taken, she's had the rear bumper removed. It's awaiting time to have a box section bumper welded onto the towbar.

Speaking of Surfs...

This morning I took the SFA in for the A/C to be repaired, two O-rings had to be replaced and the unit regassed. While I waited for it, I browsed the used car lot next door to the A/C place. They are selling a maroon Surf (same as Matt's) but fitted with a V6 (presumably Ford?) motor for R95,000. The overall condition looked good, but then the A/C chap called me to say he had finished with my car so I never investigated any further.

Cheers for all the welcomes chaps, (and the translation Scooter). :D

With regards to spec, she's fairly standard. No suspension or body lifts. She has uprated springs on the rear, and runs ProComp ES9000 shocks all round. Other than that, most of the other things are adaptations, such as the viscous fan has been removed and replaced with an electric cooling fan assembly, the A/C has been removed to allow some access to the engine bay. :D Oh, and I have an obsession for fitting toggle switches wherever room allows. :D It's not that I take pics every time I alter something, Image but there are some pics of the various bits and bobs up here:
http://outgoing.bauchan.org/toyota_surf ... ellaneous/

Edit: Forgot to mention. It's the 2.4 2LT-E engine she has.

They did do an option with the V6 engine. Not sure what engine they use offhand, but I'll find out. One of the chaps on the UK site has one. They're devils for blowing the HG, apparently. :D

Hi Matt,

It could well be original then. Sports a big chrome "V6" badge on the rear door, which is why I thought it might have been a Ford V6. Don't think there were too many Toy V6's here, we missed out on the first IFS generation of Hiluxes because Toyota SA weren't happy with the suspension. I wish they would still manufacture the SFA's, there is a huge market here for these.

The V6 versions are fairly thin on the ground over here too. Not many that I've heard of knocking about. Just found out it was the 3VZ-E engine they used in those.

SFA. Is that the solid front axle? The US sites tend to have quite a lot of info on converting IFS to solid axle. It seems to be one of their favourite choices too. :D

Yes, SFA = solid front axle. Apparently, pretty much a direct fit on the IFS models (at least, the IFS model in my signature, and presumably the previous model as well). I think it would provide for an awesome vehicle! Have seen photos of some that have been done locally, they are pretty impressive.
