My eerste Hilux

Post by Rudi J »

Hi all Hilux lovers,

Got myself an early Christmas gift...this is my very first Toyota Hilux.
I am also new to the whole 4x4 world and would like to tap into fellow enthusiasts and learn more about all the tricks of the trade.

The Hilux is a beaut, 3.0 D4-D, 4x4, silwer in color, 2008 model with 96000km on the clock and a Carryboy canopy.

We are already planning our very first trip to Botswana in December and can't wait - so exciting!

Happy Hilux
Rudi J

Hi Racing Snake

Thank you to all for the warm welcome!

I have not yet joined the club, but is definitely planning on joining - what can I expect when I join?

I need to start looking at building up the bakkie for a 4x4 camping trip to Botswana in December and would need some advice on what to buy and what not - as I have a limited budget.

Thanks
Rudi J

Hi Jacques,

Recovery Kit
Roofrack + fitment
Dubble Jerry Can bracket
Gas bottle bracket
Bash Plate
High Lift Jack
High Lift Mounting Bracket
Hi-Lift Baseplate
Compressor (72lt)
Jerry Cans (x2)
Wolf box / ammo box
Lumeno Lead Light Strip
byl
brandblusser
graaf
Awning
Yskas/vrieskas
Duel Battery System

Ek is nie nog nuut op die forum, nie seker of hierdie die regte plek is om raad te vra oor die tipe van ding nie.

Dankie baie
Rudi J

Welkom!

Hey Rudi

I see I meant it when I said in "our neck of the hood" - grew up in Ficksburg also - :yahoo: late 80's when it was still green/yellow with Sunflower fields spreading for kilometers and a game of polo on weekends. And then there the cherry festival which occurs annually,

Hi Rudi and welcome!
Agree with Hoppy .... leave the recovery kit for later once you understand what you need or don't need. The High lift is a useful tool on the odd occasion from time to time but a dangerous one to use as well. You would also require high lift jack points on the vehicle which you don't have yet (those come with custom integrated bumpers and rock sliders), so forget about the high lift too for now (unless you intend using it only as a poor-man's winch). Just get yourself a decent tow rope, a spade, a tyre pressure gauge or a tyre deflator (available from the forum shop) and a mini compressor (an air-jack might be a useful option in your current case). Some sand ladders could also be useful.

Don't have any problem with the rest of your list ....

Roof-rack + fitment
Double Jerry Can bracket
Gas bottle bracket
Bash Plate
Jerry Cans (x2)
Wolf box / ammo boxes (You'll need a lot more than one)
Lumeno Lead Light Strip (LED strips can also be bought from the forum shop)
byl
brandblusser
graaf
Awning
Yskas/vrieskas
Duel Battery System

;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Welcome & Enjoy. The lighter the vehicle the less recovery equipment you need. Drawers for easy packing, Fridge/freezer for food & dop & roof rack for wood. Long range tank saves a lot of fuel hassles.
