Hi Werner and welcome

The capabilities of the two are the same. However for off-road the KZ would be a bit better as it would have more torque. The 2.7 would be a bit better in the dunes / loose sand.

Having said that I would choose the 2.7.......unbreakable ! The KZ if looked after like a baby will be fine but finding a KZ that has been nursed in Sandton's pediatric ward for 7 years, is difficult to find. Risky imho.
Just so a search on the IN and you will soon find!

I would not hesitate buying a 2.7 with 300 - 400 000km's on the clock

Oh yes.....USING CAPS IS LIKE SHOUTING........ :wink2:

Welcome Werner! Yes, agree .... would rather get a 2.7 than KZ because of the possible head issues if it's been abused. Good luck! ;-)

:mocking: :shock2:

Agree with the above, but if you were not using it daily I would have said the KZ, but then again as said not easy to find one that was looked after very well. Very lovely motors in my experience just need a good hand and sober driving habits

The 2.7 is a good all rounder, not as much comfort and power as the 4.0 V6, but cheaper to maintain and excessories also a bit cheaper

How good! Because if we're talking seriously rough terrain, then you ought to be looking for an SFA and not an IFS (yeah, yeah, .... I suppose I'm gonna get some flack for that statement, but a spade was still a spade last time I checked). If not an older SFA, then a newer model with a SAS (solid axle swap, for those that don't know) .... and then we're talking a whole new kettle of wax / ball of fish ( :D: ).

;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

The 2.7 Hilux and most other 4x4 vehicles has 4x4 capabilities way beyond the capabilities of many drivers.

In other words, a good 4x4 driver in a Foton Tunland can do things that a bad driver in a Hilux 2.7/Vigo/KZ cannot do. See it as a tool in the hands of a craftsman, and in those terms, Hilux is the best tool...

Steve, he was asking specifically about the IFS/Vigo, but the SFA is a totally other beast... especially when not equipped with a standard 4Y or 22R engine...

I got the 2.7 4x4 2000...very solid truck. HAve done plenty dunes which it is awesome. Rocky mountain passes are also good but keep away from the pedal...control the right foot.
Also looking for a replacement wanting the manual V6 4L Hilux...want the power for overlanding. Good idea?
