my Hilux

Post by Toppie4x4 »

Hi I am new to forum but visited the site a lot in the past. My Hilux was converted to 4x4 in December 2012 with 95000km, currently on 139000km. Still a lot to do, but have long range fuel tank that needs to be fitted, dual battery already halfway there.

Converting my 2004 Hilux 2.7 4x2 to 4x4.
1. Bought a donor vehicle 2002 DC 2.7 4x4 with damaged engine for R40,000
2. Removed the following items:
a) Front diff with hubs and cross member and drive shafts
b) Removed gearbox with transfer case and cross member
c) Checked gearbox, replace nylon bush on gearlever.
d) Remove drive shaft (not the same as 4x2)
e) Remove (cut off) the two front diff brackets welded to chassis
3. Weld the two front diff brackets to chassis and paint
4. Install the front diff, drive shafts and hubs (over one weekend )
5. Took the vehicle for wheel alignment
6. Cut gearlever hole bigger (used rubber holding plate as template)
7. Asked friend at workshop to fit remove old gearbox and fit 4x4 gearbox (to heavy to do by myself) charged me R800.00 , very easy with gearbox jack and hoist.
8. Fit 4x4 gearbox cross member and make extension bracket for prop shaft centre bearing.
9. Fit existing wiring to gearbox (even the 4x4 light on dash is working) 4x4 wiring were cable tied by factory onto 4x2 gearbox.
10. Sold Hilux cab, loading body, chassis and old engine for R35000.
11. Sold 4x2 gearbox R3500
Issues:
12. Have to tell Toyota with every service that it is a 4x4 as the VIN number info cannot be changed. Will neve r b a 4x4 on the registration documents BUT it was still worth it because of the low mileage.
And that is my story, enjoy her every day.

Dankie aan almal, ek sal kyk wat ek kan kry en dan beslis n fotos plaas. As ek die forum so lees dan lyk dit my ek moet die SFA opsie oorweeg aangesien die IFS blykbaar nie rerig n 4x4 is nie
