Hilux 1979 RN46 4X4 Start of restoration

Post by Jacques79 »

Last year my father in law gave me old Yellow for free. I installed it with a new battery and got it started after about 8 turns, the back wheels were lock up from the rust I took it off and got it free again. I then decided to drive it from Jeffreys bay to Cape St Francis to see if it will over heat and it was running like a dream.
In January last year I decided to drive it from Jeffreys to Johannesburg which I did!!!!
The only problem I had on the 18 R motor is that the v-belt was a bit loose which I tighten up again when I stopped in Johannesburg, till today and still miracle for me that I drove it up to here with no problems.
Last week I took it to The hobby park here in Rangeview and was again impressed with old Geeles ability, that's when I decided Geeles needs to be restored.
Please feel free to comment and advise. I will post pictures as the restoration continues.

Looks like it has the typical 79-83 Rust in the bed but definitely in a restorable condition.
I love the old long beds.
Have fun on the restoration. Do you have a timeline goal for getting it done?

You will not sommer find a bin or tailgate in better condition.

Keep yours and repair.

:yahoo: :yahoo: :celebrate: :celebrate: Pulled out the motor and gearbox o and I did find a load bin in Hercules Pretoria
I think I did a great job in cleaning up the old gearbox. I used some silvo to shine it up, its a piece of beauty on its own. Showroom condition 4 speed 4x4 gearbox very very rare.
