Hiluxer's that you meet unexpectedly!

Post by Family_Dog »

So let's start something here - not referring to your neighbour but rather a fellow 'Luxer that you unexpectedly meet for the first time!

****

I met a couple of the guys at Tinus "Afrcian Offroad's" home here this evening, including our very own Okkie van Wyk and Dave Faddel from the 4x4 Community Forum. Also a couple of other Training Assessors, Shaun, Braam and one other, shamefully whose name I am unable to recall.

Great meeting you, Guys!

We bumped into Johann (3 Blind Monkeys) at Augrabies recently, and in March we stopped at Winkelshoek in Piketberg when a mean biker dude pulled up, none other than Steve (Zeplin).

Although I have met both of them before, meeting them in these places were unexpected and great..

I suppose this thread will grow very slowly as the statistical chance of meeting a fellow forum member or even spotting one on the road is quite small? Let's see.

Last year while Niel and I were doing the Caracal and West Coast echo routes, we met up with Roadrunner and another forum member (sorry the screen name has escaped me!) while exploring the scull caves en route.

Was Vrydag 14 September oppad van Johannesburg na Mosselbaai. Stop by die Engen vulstasie by Kroonvaal. Sien 'n wit IFS met Hilux 4x4 Club plakker op. Stap nader en stel my voor. Kry 'n knorrige "Ja Arno van der Merwe" as antwoord. Man gaan net aan om bande te probeer pomp en vloek. Weet nou nog nie wie dit was nie. Hy het seker 'n slegte "hair day" gehad. :frustrated:

Ek het een van beste (Hilux) vriende 11 jaar terug in Luderitz ontmoet toe ons bymekaar verby gery het in die staat. Sy Hilux was besonder netjies.

Hello every body , good to meet some hilux people . Im Luke and i just bought my first ever hilux 2 days ago , its a 2008 turbo diesel 3.0 L tray back . I am pretty happy with the beast right now but am still a little concerned about the amount of K,s as its got 199000 on it .Its a ex chub security fleet car .I only had $17 grand and wanted to get the 2005 - 20010 model so i had to get something with a lot of k,s to get into the market with only $17 grand to spend . I know $17 is still a lot of money but to get this model you really are looking at $20k or more for something that's decent .P.S i didnt want a ex mine spec car because of the toxic dust that corodes under the car .What do you guys think ?

Welcome Luke, 199 000 km's is not much for a Hilux, my Vigo has done more than 260 000 with no problems. There is a few guys with more than 400 000 km's on the clock.

So today Patsy calls me for a "customer". I straighten my tie, flick my kuif back, check for signs of spinach between my teeth, flex my muscles and walk through to the front reception, to be met by a tall man dressed all in red. One of Father Christmas' elves?

Noooo, indeed not - it was great meeting a fellow Klerksdorpian, although he has since emigrated to Tswane - proud dad of the young fisherman who caught a fish twice his size over the weekend - Antonie, a.k.a. antlo69 on the forum.

We had a nice chat, discovered we share a lot in that we both love Hiluxes, both use VC, both have coffee without that sickly sweet stuff added, weigh about the same, and did I say we both love Hilux's.

Good to meet you Anton, thanks for popping in!
