New to the forum

Post by Beer458 »

Good evening

I came across the forum when doing some research. I drive a 2006 Hilux 3.0 d4d dubbelcab cab which has 162 000 kms on the clock. Currently it's pretty much standard except for the RV replacement bulbar.

Currently thinking of doing the suspension through MikeM suspensions, onca rock sliders, safari snorkel and adding a winch.

My 4x4 activities relate more to hunting trips and bush breakaways as a way to get around. I haven't done serious 4x4 trips.

Going to read up some more on all the info on this site

Enjoy the evening

Christo, those alu running boards are soft and too low ..... they will be the first casualties on a trail. Take them off while they are still in good nick and sell them, then put that cash towards a set of sliders. ;-)

Nice truck!

Thanks again for all the welcome messages.

If you look closely you'll note that the left running board has a slight arch in it, had the bakkie for a month when I parked it on its belly in the mud pit. As you said, they are soft, so I just net them back again.

I am planning on fitting the ONCA rock sliders, just waiting to hear if they have stock.

Thanks Guys

I got most of the quotes today and must say I trying my best not to get cold feet. It's probably because I'm takin a Big Bang approach to this.

The wife and I have been debating about whether I should buy a new Hilux, but I just don't see the point of paying all the money again and getting basically the same again. My Hilux is still in good nick.

I am thinking of doing all of the following before we are off the the Kruger at the end of the month:
- Mikem suspension
- Lynx rear bumper and spare wheel carrier
- lynx rock sliders
- Snorkel
- PowerMax winch
- LR tank

Obviously doing this all at once is big money, but I've been thinking of this for a long time....

Need some encouragement here....I am convinced its worth spending this money on my Hilux

Thanks

It took me a long time to decide whether to do any mods and in my true style when I made up my mind, it had to be done right noe :slap:

I got a very good quote from Lynx 4x4 and decided to go with them. I fitted my new BFG A/T 31x10.5xR15 on the weekend. Looks a bit better than the 30x9,5's I had.

Hopefully within the next week I will have the following done:
- Lynx rear bumper and spare wheel carrier
- Lynx rock sliders
- Frontrunner 70l LR tank
- snorkel
- PowerMax winch

Next year I want to sell my SACanopy and get an Alucab. will also get a hunting frame for the hunting season
