In the Toyota stable :
The previous X-tra cab only had two front doors. The new model has the extra set of suicide doors.
NOT sure if you can order a seat and safety belts for the Toyota.
FORD stable :
You CAN order the vehicle from Ford with an extra seat and seat belts.
It also has the suicide doors.
NO, you would not want to use that extra row on a regular basis. But it certainly bridges the main shortcoming of a single cab ... for those odd cases where you must carry an extra passenger.

John then you basically only have one choise in the Toyota brand ... with some very minor cosmetic differences .
ONE thing to check for - not sure if the later models were available with the newer 2,5D-4D motor - variable vane turbo. May just be a nice option ....

Guys,
quick query. What do i need to look out for regarding the clutch on the D4D? I have read that some owners have had problems?

Hi John
I can confirm my November 2011 (2012 face-lift) model Xtra-Cab, came with Diff-Lock.
My clutch shudder every now and again when pulling away. I have a steep driveway, then I "burn" it a bit going up. That sorts it out for a couple of weeks. Probably not the best thing to do, but I'm on 140k km now, so expecting to replace it sooner than later in anyway. It recently survived towing a 2ton Jeep 400km back from Moz, so maybe it will surprise me!
Otherwise no complaints, I had a BT-50 Freestyle Cab before with the suicide doors on the rear, but I quickly got used to folding the seats for loading things in the Hilux.
