NEW MEMBER INTRO

Post by Jonathan999 »

Hi

I am new to 4x4 and will slowly start saving up and building a dream project. My goal is to retire one day and tour through Africa. I am looking for a cheap 4x4 Toyota Hilux the older ones Double Cab. To strip and restore and enhance it can be a non runner as I will be putting in Lexus V8

Welcome Johnathan!

There have been a few of the older models available here on the forum of late (could be sold already), but just keep an eye open here as they still come up every now and then. (Watch the "For sale" section.) :winkx:
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Welcome to the forum Jonathan.
I would reconsider upgrading a Hilux to a V8 for a trip into Africa.
They can be heavier than normal on fuel, there are more often than not problems with the enjine being mismatched to the gearbox, causing damage.
Being a far way from home and having vehicle problems in a strange place, with strange people, who are more likely to see you as a source to improving their position at your expence, is not the most ideal sifuation.
If you want something solid and reliable, then I would suggest that you invest in a 4.2D Cruiser. The other point I would like to make is that this type of trip will costaplenty and without a restoreable income, this can leave you destitute. Not trying to say that you cannot afford it or that you have not planned for your future, but things can change very quickly in this day and age. You only need one idiot to make a stupid statement for the markets or currency to take a dive. We have plenty of them idiots around as well, who do not think before opening the trap.
Good luck with your decision

Normally no non-runners sold here, although I remember a rolling chassis on one occasion where a vehicle was stripped and sold as spares. Good luck with your project. :winkx:
