Ford Ranger 4000 V6 vs 90s Hilux SFA with v6 toyota engine

Post by BigDogSlushPuppy »

Hi All, :eh:
I thought I would share my dilemma in order to get some input and direction, i am torn between buying a black 04 4l ranger 4x4 with 200K kms on the clock, wich I can get a 2 yr warranty on. Vs a dark blue 90s hilux with a V6 engine in. I am wanting to use the 4x4 to do some trails and use for fishing, and to cut new trails on my farm in the eastern cape, I like the creature comforts of the ford..leather, sound etc but have heard the Hilux SFA is better for hard core offroading. Just wanting to hear your thoughts wich will help in the decision making, there is a R30k difference in price too, the ford being a little more pricey.
Anyway, I am sure I will enjoy both but not sure i can believe the salesman on iether end. :shifty:

Thanks a stack

Hi Dereck, what price you paying for the lux and what extras has it got? The lux is a far better option IMO.

Derek, being a Ford Ranger 4wd driver myself (albeit a 2.5 TD), I would say go for the Hilux if you want to cut trails etc etc. It is MUCH more off-road capable than the IFS Ford. And the Hilux is much more modifyable to improve off-road ability. :goodjob: :goodjob:

Also the 4.0 Fords break. They break engines and they break gear-boxes and they break differentials. I use my Ford for daily commuting and light off-road work and my Hilux for the serious stuff.

IMHO, your best bet would be the Hilux.

Welkom Derek.Hilux would be the better vehicle.A friend of mine had the 4.0L ford and the engin overheated at 80 000km.Had to replace the engin R25 000 later. No engins at Boston.

Dereck.

The only down side of a hilux that I can think of is that you might grow a little tired of people stopping you to ask if you want to sell your hilux

Asking that question on this forum Derek... can only lead to biased answers... the least biased is Thys, and even he says get the Hilux... just make sure that engine is in good nick and the conversion was done properly, a botched conversion can be a nightmare... which V6 engine is it? Ford v6 or Toy v6(3Vz)...

Hi Derek, If you're looking for someone to tell you to go with the Ford I seriously doubt you're gonna find it here.
The Ford has some nice features I guess, but when that Ford is buried and gone, the Hilux will still be 'Ploeging' trails somewhere.

ok!!
then I will do it!!

go for the Ford!!!

sadly thoe 4.0L Ford did break, as mentioned here already!!

on the other hand, the SFA hilux is much harsher ride then the Ford!!
rode in one recently and it made my Currier feel like a goma goma witch it is not either!!

if I was in you position would not know witch one to chose either!!!

on the other hand when the Ford 4.0L breaks, another 4L could always replace that 4L!! lexus 4.0

good luck

It doesn't matter whitch 4x4 you want to buy, wat matters is that you check and test everthing. Make sure
When you use 4x4 you drive on and offroad to make sure that
The ratios in the diff is the same and the transfer is working properly.
check for overheating and all fluid levels. You don't want a suprize after a month or 2.
Fuel comsumption would be almost the same. IMO I would go for the lux because
Of durability.

Daar het jy dit - gaan vir die Hilux! if comfort is not an issue! If it is well then go for both worlds a Vigo (V6), if money is not too much of an issue. If you have a budget constraint and need a small amount of comfort go for the Pre vigo IFS (and drop he idea of a V6) - Why Ford :?: they break man!

Hey thanks a stack for all the replies, this has helped me somewhat, I will be on the scout for a white, silver or red one as the blue one is too far away I reckon.
