Baviaans - info needed

Post by ChrisF »

We will be in the Cederberg onver the New Year. When the group returns we want to keep on traveling.

One of my options is to travel via the Tankwa towards Baviaans, spend a day or two in the Baviaans area and then slowly head back to the Cape.

BUT, other than the Cederberg we made NO reservations.

Any comments on accommodation in and around Baviaans ?

PS - we are rigged for camping. we dont need any water or power

Chris

I can recommend them as well!

On the Patensie side, Kudu Kaya is a very good option.

As jy boskamp soek gaan kamp by Gonja tussen Baviaans en Patensie(tel.no 082 566 4047 persoon is Hetsie)Ablisies is riet mure en sterietjies dak. Sal more bietjie fodies opsit.

MOOI !!!!!!!!!!

Deur gery en by Kudu Kaya geslaap.

Chris, Glad it helped.

I can tell you that you'll need at least a week in the area minimum and then you'll still feel there was more to see and do.

I only wish I had the co ords for the main waterfall, absolutely stunning, but don't be like me and forget your keys in your pocket before swimming as it aint fun stealing your own 4x4 in the middle of the bush LOL

That sounds like a good holiday. :)

It rained a fair deal about ten days before we got there. Just enough to have the streams flowing gently and to keep the dust of the roads without it being muddy. the roads were not washed away either, so all in all PERFECT ! Untill we got to Bergplaas .... there was a section of close to a 100m of MUD ! the deep trenched each told a very clear story .....

I saw no way around it, and turning around would mean at least a 2 hour drive before we could stop for the day. As we were still "weak" from the previous days vomiting I decided that we need to push on to get to Kudu Kaya ....

I had another look at the mud. Revered a bit. Low range. 2nd gear. chose a line done the middle. and just kep the revs at 2 500 rpm .... the bash plate WORKED ! more than once the nose actually lifted as the bashplate slid/bumped on the mud. As the nose was sliding along on the middelmannetjie I realised that there were NO trees to tie the winch to .... suddenly the mud felt even longer ....

SADLY I did not stop to take a picture of the mud. :(

And then I saw a trail come out of the bushes, as others by-paased the mud ..... Dont just walk the obstacle, also have a good look for alternatives.

That night around the camp fire we heard that 15 4x4's got stuck in that mud during the last two days ! Nice to know my ELDERS made it where others got stuck ... :)
