As promised herewith is the basic Rhino Feeding Breakdown.

Price of Denkavit: R646,73/25kg bag

Price of lucern: R65,00/bale

Approximate amount of days Bundu is staying at the WLC: 220 days

Approximate amount of days Levinia is staying at the WLC: 220 days

Approximate amount of days Rambo is staying at the WLC: 90 days

Bundu:

Rice he will consume in 220 days: 660kg = R8250,00

Denkavit Foal he will consume in 220 days (1kg/day): 220kg = R5693,60

Lucern he will consume in 220 days (0.5 bales/day): 110 bales = R7150,00

Levinia:

Rice she will consume in 220 days: 660kg = R8250,00

Denkavit Foal she will consume in 220 days (1kg/day): 220kg = R5693,60

Lucern she will consume in 220 days (0.5 bales/day): 110 bales = R7150,00

Rambo:

Lucern (1 bale/day): 90 bales = R5850,00

Total Estimated Food Requirements:

Sjoe... what a challenge.

Personally I think we should propose to sondela that we handle the rest of the rice needs.
Because so much effort has been put into getting the lowest prices on rice.

Once we accomplished that, we can look at our monthly pledges to support other needs of the rhinos.

Jeepie - have you got final confirmation on the rice package? How much can the supply give all at once?

Here's my proposal ( subject to confirmations )

# we supply 500kgs of rice and the balance of the money towards lucern ( I'm sure we can get the lucern supplier details from Sondela ) Or we go full hog with the money collected and get as much rice as possible.

# collect the rice on Fri/sat

# make a trip to Sondela on Sunday to deliver ( even if it's only the rice ) and then make a day out of exploring the rest of Sondela.

# Danman - looks like the convoy is only the two of us thus far

1 ton of rice / 40 bags @ R45 each = R 1 800 ( Jeepie to confirm the price of R45/bag)

86 bails of lucern @ R65/bail = R 5 590 ( acc. Sondela)
that gives about 43-45 days of lucern

Total = R 7 390

OR

1 ton of rice / 40 bags @ R45 each = R 1 800 ( Jeepie to confirm the price of R45/bag)

9 bags of Denkavit foal @ R650 / 25kg = R 5 850 ( acc. Sondela)

Total = R 7 650

I think the lucern/rice combo might go further, but we still need to confirm everything with Sondela.

I had a discussion with Sondela and their request is for the rice and milk powder. The rhinos are too small at the moment to eat lucern and Sondela were concerned about the lucern going bad while being stored.

Shaun ( Jeepie) is sorting out the rice today and I'll be making contact with the milk powder supplier to see what can be arranged there.

I've asked Sondela as to what there is to do on the reserve for the day, ie braai/picnic facilities, game drives, wildlife centre tours, etc. Await their response - I dont even know if they cater for day vistors.

Unfortunately Landie is on leave at the moment, so I'm battling to get info/confirmations from Sondela.

The plan so far ( subject to confirmations, etc) is:
- trip is planed for Sunday 02/12/2012
- meet at the Petropoort just north of Pretoria
- leave from there at 8h00 for Sondela
- meet the lil rhinos
- relax and enjoy the rest of the day, take the day as it comes. Hopefully we can get to braai or something and kuier a bit.

Spoke to the Denkavit supplier and the cost is R422 ex VAT for 15kg bag. He will speak to his boss to see if there's a way to reduce the cost, which will just revert back into extra bag or two.

so for now at R481 incl VAT per bag, we can supply 8 bags ( R 3848).

If we can get another R1000 together then we can make it a round 10 bags

Who's up for the challenge???

Okay, some feedback from Sondela:

Thank you so much for your generous donation!

How many people will be in your group and what is the colour and make of your car? I just want to organize with the guards to let you in at the gate.

Unfortunately no private picnic baskets or braai’ing is allowed, but we do have a very nice restaurant where you can have lunch. There are also pools where you can cool down and relax. You are more than welcome to go on your own game drive and we do have 4x4 trails. There is also horse back riding, quad bikes and of course I will give you a tour of the Wildlife Centre.

If you want to let me know what you would like to do I can help to book the activities for you.

Can I suggest that we put a list together and if you can give the details of you vehicle aswell, then I'll confirm with Sondela.

Also indicate what activity you would like to do. I don't know if there are any costs or what the cost is for the activities.

Can we confirm the list by 12 noon tomorrow ( saturday)

Dingo ( Scott ) 2x people, Silver Prado. (my Lux has a broke a shaft and may or may not be fixed tomorrow).

Here are just a few of the other animals. Got lots of pics but time is a bit tight at work. I would just like to say thanks to all who helped out here, everyone who donated. those who didn't and would still like to, please these little guys need all the help they can get. Well done to the guys at Sondela as well. it is a huge task which they have undertaken and funds are tight. Everyone who was there taking part in the delivery. great meeting you all and we will see you again...
