My Hilux received a Chassis treatment today

Post by pietpetoors »

My bakkie's chassis has lots of rust on. Luckily it is not serious rust yet. Did not flake yet, but I have to get it treated.

I went to Henk from West Coast Detailing Centre in Belville for a Waxoyl treatment. You can check out Waxoyl's web site for more info on the product information.
Some of the reason I went for Waxyol are:
"Salt Spray Test – Exceeds 1000 hours exposure on Standard test panels @ 50 microns DFT ( Scribed And Unscribed)
Exceeds the requirements of US Mil-C-0083933A for Corrosion preventive compounds"
Sine the coast is taking it's toll on a vehicle it sounded obvious.

I am sitting here at his workshop, waiting for him to finish and I am already impressed.
I get far more than what I bargained for.

I thought he was just going to spray the chassis, but this is much more than that and I think at R2,500.00 it is a huge bargain.

He cleans the chassis and spray it with Waxoyl Hardwax, but he also sprays Waxyol Professional Cavity Protector in all the holes inside the chassis and inside the doors. This is a water repellent which will protect the inside as well. See in one of the pics below he sticks a pipe with 360 nozzle inside each hole he can get to and then sprays it inside.

He is also going to spray the wheel arches and under the floor with the black stuff.

Will load more pics later as he goes on and also more details.
Interesting facts are that the Waxoyl Hardwax can even take the heat of the exhaust, it will not flake and it does not get hard like paint,

It dries non sticky within about 6 hours, but it remains soft, does not get as hard as paint.
When it get hot it also do not drip like bitumen or other products would.

They use it mostly on heavy vehicles and in Europe where they spray the ice with salt, this product is very popular to protect the cars from the salt. Think it comes from Switzerland or somewhere.

Tailgate and doors just got treatment inside.

Almost done, last pics

It does look nice, well done

On a different note, regarding your suspension, I know you have Mikem at the rear and the 38mm ball joint spacers up front, just noticed that you're using Gabriel Safaris, do you not have them bottom out when doing obsticles?

Donkey, no the shocks do not bottom out. The front ones just make it by about 5mm and the rear ones are Ok

Andy you can buy the product, but you need a special spray gun to apply it.

Mr B, I want to give you some feedback regarding the hard vs sticky question.
It is now a couple of days later. The Waxyol is still a bit sticky. It is not as sticky so that dust collect on it but if you work on the vehicle the black stuff stays on your hands.

Sal weer update gee.

Question...

Did they steam clean inside and outside the chassis etc first??

If that stuff stays sticky then what will a high pressure washer do to it??

Reason for me asking is.....
After i have been in the bush i like to clean the underneath of the entire van with a high pressure washer i use degreaser first and spray it everywhere i can get to,
then i connect the hot water to the pressure washer to get the cleaning done properly....
It works almost like a steam cleaning machine....

Comes out nice and clean ready for the next bush run.....

I saw that they use the same Waxyol product on the new G-wagons at work, but personally do not like it, its basically spray-on wax that repels water and protects from small stones etc, but can't imagine it lasting too long, especially when doing some serious off-roading and then it requires a new coat.

What did they include if you want to re-coat it after a year or so?
