South African Post Office - Strike... again

Post by CasKru »

My wife just tried to send a parcel to Cape Town via their speed services and guess what.... they are on strike again and this while the backlog of the previous strike has not been sorted yet. I've received none of my 4x4 magazines I'm subscribed to in the last two months. This is really starting to irate me like you can't believe. Fire the bastards and get someone that want to work

I'm seriously considering cancelling those subscriptions and switching to the electronic versions or just buying them in store. In the last year I've lost about 12 magazines.

Ag NO, NOT AGAIN !!!!

I Agree, fire the lot if they do not want to work. 25% of people in South Africa do not have a job, there are lots of people who would love to take over their jobs.

I am in China at the moment and it is totally a different world. People want to work and they are proud on what they do, even the lade who sweep the park. They well orgnised and diciplined. I am rather gatv0l of the South African workforce who think it is somebody else's duty to give them a job, and not their privilage to have a job.

Fire them and get people who want to work.

as a result of the last strike, 588 at witspos(the main mail center near gold reef city) got fired
and around 40 at the Germiston mail center
and some in krugersdorp

this is a different bunch
these are the mail delivery guy
many of them have been in casual employment for up to seven years, and have been promised permanent employment, and this the same bunch that striked last year to get rid of the labor brokers, witch they did
the same bunch that also burned vehicles last year

the issue is that Witspos is the heart of the PO
the guys currently on strike dont work at witspos, however they know that if witspos sneezes then the whole PO gets a cold

coastal postal services should be uneffected

How do you know that SAPO is on strike?

You don't, the service stays exactly the same!

There was a sale in China on some of the online shops today. Imagine we send this to our post offies
According to a Post Bureau prediction, 500 million packages will be delivered between Nov 12 and Nov 16, a 50 percent increase from 2013
China's e-commerce giant Alibaba has shattered the single-day sales for its Nov 11 online shopping festival, known as 11/11, reaching the a new mark at 1:31pm, more than 10 hours earlier than last year.

Alibaba's online platforms, including Taobao and Tmall, topped sales of 36.2 billion yuan($5.91 billion in 13.5 hours, surpassing the total of the entire 24-hour event from last year. Analysts said the total sales of the Hangzhou-based firm for Nov 11 could be as high as 80 billion yuan

From them Facebook page:
We are pleased to announce that the strike has ended following an announcement by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) today. This comes after the SA Postal and Allied Workers Union (Sapawu), and the Democratic Postal and Communications Union (Depacu) earlier agreed that their members should return to work.

Today, only 0.7 percent of our workforce remains absent from work. As a result, operations in all provinces are now at almost 100 percent capacity.

We would like to extend our sincerest apologies once again to everyone who was inconvenienced by the strike. Plans to work off the backlog have been implemented – the international mail centre, for example, has added a night shift.

My pakkie wat 4x4 direct op 4 September by die poskantoor ingehandig het wys op die tracking search dat dit gister by my poskantoor uitgekom het.Amper drie maande geneem.

I think its time that ths country gets a private mail service which will all but cripple the SA post Office. If I had the money, I would start up one. I also sell small qauntities of this and that and rely alot on free shipping. With the strike I am not able to buy in any goods, as it would then make me alot more expensive

TEN publishers got together and went out on tender mid November for an alternate delivery to move all their business away from SAPO.

most suppliers like myself have already moved over to couriers .... CHEAPER and more reliable than SAPO !

Banks are moving to emailing accounts, rather than mail.

Even Pathcare asked to email my account rather than use SAPO ....

I think when the dust settles SAPO may just clear their back log to find 90% of their regular business GONE !!!!

I feel SORRY for those hard working people at my local SAPO branch !! They did NOT strike ! They have been working their for decades, always helpful, always friendly .... but some temps over turned the whole system ... and thanks to our lenient approach to strikes another business has been ruined !!!

Look at the strike at Jurgens - ONE mention in the media ! But for the last three months the workers have been striking ... for the last 4 weeks it turned VIOLENT !! still just the one mention in the media. CLEARLY not sustainable. Yet another company on the verge of closing doors, with various outlets accross the country - and again just a handful of people that are destroying everything for so many others.

Look at Shoprite - truck drivers decide to strike .... Thus far Shoprite's answer - armes escourt for each truck !! Very standoff in front of their warehouse gates !!! Strikers on the one side, armed security in full riot gear on the other side .... this thing turns bad and Shoprites will be EMPTY over the festive period !!
