Hi Guys,
My son is a geologist planning a project in Zambia. They have four new Hilux SRX Double cabs they need to drive up to site. Does anyone have any idea what the costs of getting these vehicles into Zambia, for three months, will be?
Alternatively, where can we find this info? I've looked on the net but haven't found the right site yet. Much easier to ask here. Any help will be appreciated.

Brian, check Into Africa link on the AA website. You will find everything you need to know there.
I'm not too sure if there is still a ban on trading in USD.

If you don't own an FJ Cruiser you probably won't understand...

If they have work permits they can take the vehicles through on those permits. Almost like taking the vehicles as tools. I have my work hilux on my permit. Hope that helps.

Tony, Mike,
Thanks for your responses. This forum Rocks.
I checked on the AA into Africa site. All of the costs that them mention are quoted in US$ and seem quite low. According to my son, US$ are out, only Kwachas allowed to be used. I wonder how current the site is.
Some guy on another forum said it cost him something like R4000 to take his Cruiser through Zambia to Tanzania. Is that possible?

Hi Brian
When I was there a few months back USD was out, apparently some law that was recently passed to promote the use of Kwachas. You will get arrested if found in the possession thereof.
As you've said " the AA didn't get the memo".

Thanks Tony.
So how much did it cost to get you and your Hilux into Zambia? Approximately.

Re: Cost of getting vehicles into Zambia
Hi guys, we are planning a 3 vehicle trip thru Namibia to Zambia. 2 of the vehicles are going thru to Zambia around the 8th August, I will be continuing around Katima and Okavango Delta and back to Windhoek. The other 2 would like to know if one can take meat over the border into Zambia. What are the restrictions regarding taking food over the border from Namibia into Zambia. Also does any one know what the costs would be to take the vehicles over for the 2 week holiday. They travelling up the western side and then moving east to Hippo lodge and then down to Vic falls on the Zambia side.
Any help would be apreciated.
Thanx
Ian
