Underbody protection - Vigo

Post by Samurai »

Hi!

I am looking at adding underbody protection to my Lux. Looking around on the Forum, it seems most people like the bashplate from Stofpad 4x4.

I am not planning on doing hectic offroad, but would like something decent. Besides the bashplate, would it be recommended to add protection for the lower control arms as well? I see on Stofpad's website, that if you want the gearbox skid plate, you first need to fit the fuel tank cover plate, but I don't think that's really needed for what I'll be doing... any advice?

Which other "makes" of underbody protection are recommended? And if you have had a bashplate fitted recently, what was the cost?

Many thanks

Thanks very much for your reply, Stofpad seems to have some good reviews.

as a side note - my bakkie is called ELDERS.

I contacted UYS of Stofpad, two emails later I order a bashplate sporting the letters ELDERS :)

not many people still delivering this level of service. Granted this meant that my bashplate was 100% custom and I had to wait for it to be manufactured from scratch. Well worth it !!

I have seen a photo of your bashplate, looks really great! How long was the wait and was there and extra charge for this?

Think it was about two weeks - manufacturing and delivery to Cape Town included.

Costs ... no serious extra costs. Best to check with Uys though ..

Nice to know...

As I was wanting to get the Stofpad4x4 bash plates for our Tuna... and I have never liked the wording "Fortuner" on the plate... maybe I can just get slots cut into it ???

Have bushplate from L A Sport, which a friend took while I was away and had HABOOB laser cut into the front of the plate, very happy. Has saved my bacon on overlanding trips done alone. It is a relief not to see oil after a heavy knock...

OK, so after much looking around and getting quotes etc, I bought an Extreme Bash Plate from Real Steel, and at a very reasonable price too!

The plate is 4mm thick, has recesses underneath to minimize damage to the bolts and it has an access panel which can be removed for when the vehicle is serviced.

I must say, the service which Renier provided was excellent! They do other underbody protection plates too, as well as rock sliders and a few other things.
