Had about a third of my crew in today and them some coming in for night shift. It is a pain tbh cause these people don't realize the negative long term effects they are causing. Wish I was rich enough like these guys to take a month off work unpaid.

I had 10 people in the factory today and only 7 of the 48 machines were able to run. None of my Night shift is coming in..................

Only a view days and we are going to stop Ford and Toyota with no parts...............................

Depending on how long it lasts it may hold us up a bit with hot dip galvanising, but not a train smash either way, we have contingency plans in place. ;-)

Ironically when they eventually come back they expect you to carry on as if nothing happened...

The last strike we had I implemented a lockout. For 3.5 months we suffered and bled but at the end of it all the bad elements had been removed.
I don't understand the mentality behind it - don't think I ever will!
Aint it ironic that "Common Sense" aint so common after all...

What they don't understand is that many companies don't even make close to that profit.

We are in the position where - if the owner had the value of the business in cash - he would do better to invest it in the bank rather than a business like ours.

The wage increase, as well as everything else, has made it difficult to still show a reasonable profit at the end of the day.
We are now investing in less labour intensive systems so that we can ultimately downsize our staff component.


I've just read on news 24 that many of the international companies have indicated that, should the strikes continue, they will have no other option but to close down their businesses and seek countries with less labour issues.

How's that for shooting yourself in the foot!

Ons het ook al die B's en E's , maar slegs twee whities wat hier werk. Almal by die werk. Die BBEEE kom van die tyd toe ons nog van hulle in diens gehad het. Nou doen masjiene die werk. Geen stakings nie, werk op Saterdae en vakansiedae, en is altyd betyds.

Ons doen net GOEIE onderhoud, en die masjiene waardeer dit opreg.

Hulle laat ons met geen keuse nie.

'n Business survives on it's reputation and ability to deliver.

Unreliable staff make it difficult to deliver good service or products. Period.

The buzz word nowadays is social responsibility.

Well, social responsibilty to me is not giving out handouts because they are demanded. If that's what the politicians mean by the phrase then I don't have a "social responsibilty" and neither do I have a social conscience.

It's taking every effort to teach and train those who really want to better themselves and don't expect/demand anything other than a fair opportunity for them to work themselves up from the bottom, giving their all to better themselves in the process.

If I have to put up with constant theft, absenteeism, recklessness,drunk at work, stabbings at work, strikes, lack of respect etc. then machinery makes so much more sense!

Why would I want to take unnecessary risks?

My good employees get paid way more than the others on the same level.

Unfortunately they make up less than 10% of my total work force!

Dis sulke tye wanneer die "paymeester" ook op strike moet gaan sodat hulle ook kan voel waaroor dit gaan!

Anyone else seen this press release from NEASA?

The following is a press release by Gerhard Papenfus, NEASA's Chief Executive, issued this morning:-

Following the NUMSA press conference yesterday, NEASA deems it important that all South Africans be informed of the real state of affairs.

A month before the commencement of the strike, NUMSA made it clear that industrial action was to commence on July 1, 2014. To suggest then that NUMSA wanted a swift settlement in these negotiations, is suspicious. It is clear that NUMSA always had an ideological agenda and that they could never sufficiently make that point without a strike. They made up their minds to strike even before the negotiations began.

From the outset NUMSA demanded a double digit increase. They've made this a mobilising slogan. The financial capacity of employers was never considered in making this demand, whilst at the same time NUMSA made it an emotional issue. I challenge NUMSA to immediately make available the 'scientific analysis' they boast off.

Not to be outdone by AMCU in the platinum strike, NUMSA is for quite some time now threatening employers with an indefinite strike. If that is not irresponsible economic blackmail, what is? NUMSA has a militant socialist agenda and they are clearly using this strike to promote that agenda. Addressing poverty and unemployment, sustainable economic growth, the rightful aspirations of the unemployed and even the real interests of their own members are sacrificed for short term political aspirations.

Whilst we as parties are negotiating within the bargaining council structures, there rests a responsibility on us to negotiate a dispensation that is sustainable, that will stimulate business, stimulate economic growth, attract investment and consequently create jobs; which is the only way that poverty and inequality can be addressed. But not only that - we need to create a business and social environment that at least create an opportunity to work for those not so fortunate to have a job at all.

NUMSA has made it very clear that they do not want to negotiate these issues at all. Whilst they create an impression of them fighting for the working class and the poor, their policies and actions achieve exactly the opposite.

The current collective bargaining model, which manifests itself in a far worse form within the Metal Industry, apart from those employees still fortunate to be in employment, and apart from being a powerful political instrument in the hands of super trade unions, is not at all beneficial to anybody or anything else in South Africa. Therefore, unless the collective bargaining model in South Africa is completely transformed in order to adapt to a competitive global environment, it will remain a destructive force in our economy. We encourage government to make bold decisions in this regard.

Government calls on the private sector to create jobs; it will however not happen if we, in these negotiations, continue with a dispensation that does exactly the opposite. So far the negotiating parties have simply kicked this pressing issue, now a national priority, for touch.

At the beginning of these negotiations NUMSA pointed out that this Industry lost 250 000 jobs in 5 years. The General Secretary of the MEIBC recently indicated that the Industry lost 750 000 jobs; I assume over a longer period. This is an accusation levelled against what the current bargaining council regime is doing to employment. My question to NUMSA is this: what do you propose will turn around the slaughtering of business and jobs in this Industry? Thus far you have proposed absolutely nothing.

Just as NUMSA does, NEASA also relies on a mandate from its members. NEASA's mandated position is an across the board offer of 8%, a lower entry level wage and measures to create a more flexible dispensation, all aimed at making the Industry more competitive and thereby to stimulate job creation. The dispensation NEASA proposes does not in any way 'down vary', a term often used by NUMSA, the conditions of employment of existing employees. It is a proposal for discussion to open the door to those who currently are not so fortunate to be employed in the Industry.

I fail to understand why anyone defending these positions is called a racist (by implication), 'backward' and a proponent of slave labour. Your intolerance of the employers' view, which obviously differs from NUMSA's view, is surprising; but perhaps not that surprising after all. Your intolerance is typical of the 'democracy' you stand for.

NUMSA makes an issue of the fact that NEASA is critical of collective bargaining and that we are supportive of the Free Market Foundation's challenge of one particular portion of the Labour Relations Act. This is no secret. Unless NUMSA presents an alternative which convinces us that it will give everybody an equal chance in South Africa, will improve the quality of living for everybody, not only its members, which is becoming fewer and fewer as unemployment increases, but also those desperately looking for work, we will pursue our current agenda. Not challenging the current collective bargaining model which NUMSA so dearly loves, will amount to a betrayal of South Africa. Bluntly put, South Africa cannot afford the current collective bargaining model and uncontrolled and rampant unionism.

Lastly, NUMSA threatens intensified strike action. What is meant by that? Does that mean more violence, more intimidation, more damage to properties, more assault of employees who wish to execute their constitutional right to work? Please tell South Africans what is meant by that? Let me put this to NUMSA: without violence this strike will fail. You do not have the popular support you claim to have, which is the reason for the violence and intimidation. However, NUMSA can prove me wrong by allowing those workers who want to return to work, to do so unhindered. This situation will be carefully monitored in the days to come.

Lastly, Mr Jim, I suggest you search your own heart for the evils you accuse others of. Avoid sowing the seed of racism and hatred, refrain from doing this in order to broaden your popular base; because when that flame starts burning, you may just find yourself very close to the fire.

This strike is going to be the beginning of the end of our Economy. Toyota SA het sopas op die nuus aangekondig dat hulle produksie van voertuie se vervaardiging staak agv die numsa vloerm@$r. Wonder wat gaan gebeur met daai wat nou gaan honger ly ...... al wat ek sien is Banana repukliek is ons nuwe voorland.

We are going now for 3 weeks with almost 0 production. Still suppliyng parts ect but think its time to mechanize the factory and get rid of these non compliant economical destroyers. Hoping for the best that lazy lame booma will mysterically appear and call a halt to this. But this is more dream than reality.....

Volgende is geysers en dan koper pyp.

Die elektrisiens kan ook begin sukkel om kabel te kry.

3. Konstruksie bedryf - re-inforcing, strukturele staal, ens.

Thabo,sadly the injection molding companies fall under the steel industry(Tool & Die makers).They started with the engineering companies and now are trying to shut anything affiliated with it.Heat treatment plants,coating and so forth.I know of a few large scrap yards which are shut as well.

although self not on strike :surrender:

yes the extra money will be great as the more I earn the more likelihood that I keep driving my jeep and stay out of a hilux!! :lmao: :surrender: :surrender:

however they have lost all my support, besides the well publicized violence, there are 3 incidents that stand out for me
they beat up a pregnant woman
they threw a student off the train
and they burned a dog alive

self feel that the right to strike is non negotiable, as IMO its the ultimate way of showing ones employer how strong one feels about what ever issues
further feel that the law also falls short
as the law should have a clause that the moment a strike gets violent then the right to strike should fall away

further, and know that there are many on here who have their own business and are affected by the barbaric nature of the strike
have a proposal for someone to start something

a list, almost like a credit blacklist, of employees who turn violent and destructive during a strike, so that when ones who have cozed damage and behave like hooligans get fired will be on that list and not get rehired into an industry that they try to destroy

We fall under Nuasa and not Siefsa. Nuasa has not yet reached an agreement.......

We also with Neasa but my staff have come back. Unfortunately Neasa does not have enough power in the industry to dictate. They can continue as long as they like it will make very little difference this round, but i honestly hope they have the majority in 3 years time cause they do look out for the employers interest and ultimately the interest of creating jobs. Right now I have my targets set on a few problem staff and hopefully they will be without jobs by the end of the year.

I always play a long term game with these guys cause I know it is where I have the advantage because they will never see it coming.

Although in the same the hand I always look after the ones the look after me!

We had a very interesting day yesterday.
The striking workers wanted to come back to work yesterday (and not on Tuesday as supposed to).
When I told them since we are NEASA and have not agreed on a wage increase they can not come back to work as at the beginning of the strike we issued a "Lockout" to the union.

When they began getting agro we called our security company and within 5 Min and a view rubber bullets later they left the premises.....

We are now busy with dismissal procedures.

Good work! Already handed out 2 warnings in the past 2 days. Working these guys out one by one. Decided all new employees will remain on contract or use labour brokers. Gatvol of their bollie.
