Zambia Kwachas
We are off to Liuwa plains in two weeks. Went to our local bank to buy forex only to be told that S. A. banks don't trade Kwachas. They suggested that we take US Dollars and buy Kwachas in Botswana. It would be most unfortunate if we arrived in Francistown and the banks there do not have Kwachas. Buy in Katima perhaps? Any suggestions?

No go on the dollars in Zambia anymore. Can exchange them but can't use them anywhere in Zambia anymore. Only Kwatcha.

Zambia has done an about turn on the US issue AGAIN. You can use US in Zambia..........just make sure they are small denomination, printed after 2006 (big heads). You'll have better chance of getting in Katima than Francistown but best to buy them once you've crossed the bridge. The guys selling insurance are always the best to get from - fair rate and nothing 'funny'!

Thanks guys. Yes, I also heard that buying forex at the border is the easiest. We need Kwachas to cross the border so will have buy some or all on the Bots side. Thanks again for the input.
