65mm masonary drill.

Post by zepplin »

Does anyone in Cape Town by any chance have a 65mm carbide grit masonary drill which I can borrow for a couple of hours? :beg: :beg:
Fitting a split unit aircon and don't really want to fork out R180 for a new one. That equates to R 90/hole. :shock2:

That's how it was done before the carbide core bits were available. Just get one, you'll use it again for another project. If you have a decent rotary hammer drill with SDS chuck that can take a chisel, then a short (cheaper) core bit will work. (Use the core bit till it 'bottoms out', change to chisel and remove the 'plug' you've just drilled, change back to the core bit and drill the next 'plug' till it bottoms out again .... and so on till you're through. Sounds tedious, but it's not really - it goes a lot quicker than you'd expect .... about 5 - 10 min through an outer (9 inch) wall. ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

The bit is the easy part.

Have you got the right size(wattage) drill for this size bit?

Me thinks at least a 2000w. Smaller might do but you will damage the clutch.
