fuel cap side?

Post by Thunder02 »

Was just reading in the joke thread, regarding fuel gauge and filler
cap. Chris checked his two vehicles and both have arrows pointing to it. Just checked the RAV and conquest, no indication to the fuel cap. Both are 1996 models. So when did the bright spark decide to put it into vehicles?

Does the fuelpump symbol have a hose? If the hose is on the left, the cap is on the left. If the hose is on the right, the cap is on the right, if the hose is on top...

Little fuel pump has hose on the right, but fuel caps on the left. My hilux has hose and cap on the right.

Hilux Vigo and the Etios has the "hose" on the right, then an arrow pointing to the LEFT - fuel flap is on the left on both vehicles.

Mmm, so hose on right/fuelcap on right is coincidence. See the Tazz also shows hose right but cap sits left.
So the arrow must be a newer thing.
Even my KZ does not have the arrow.
Must have started on the Hiluxes in the 2005 models?
It certainly helps if you drive a vehicle not your own, like a rental.

I also heard many years back that if your indicator stalk is on the right your vehicle the fuel filler is on the left.

I have checked this over the years and it is true on most but not all vehicles...

This true for my Fortuner and the VW Passat..
