Very interesting. I can imagine that there will be a lot of wear in the "reciprocator" assembly, but the same criticisms were directed at the Wankel engine IRO it's rotor and the concept was shunned for decades before Mazda came along with the first commercial production version in the 1967 Cosmo 110S and then later in the 1973 Capella 616. Still not popular motors today, so I wonder how long it will take for us to see vehicles with a Duke engine and how successful they will be. :think:

What I wonder is how viable is it to spend zillions on new engine development if we are all going to be driving around in autodrive electric cars in 20 years time?

Look at this amazing engine from Nissan. Weight is 40Kg, 1500 Petrol engine doing 400 bhp

The duke concept have been used in various forms of air conditioning compressors for a few years already.

Add carbon deposits of combustion and it will be most interesting to see how this baby survives outside the lab ....

Pieter many many years before the oil corporations will allow the internal combustion engine to die away .... You are looking at multiple countries who's sole income is from the sale of crude oil. You are looking at mass starvation when electric cars finally replace the internal combustion engine ....

More realistically we will have a decades where people can choose fuel or electric options, with fuel becoming cheaper and cheaper as the electric options become more affordable .....

Now imagine the chinese mass production machine spewing out cheap electric vehicles, perfect for the masses that never travel outside their cities .....

going to be interesting ...... some modern day blacksmiths going to see their client base reduce ..... only question - WHEN ?

Think you are wrong. Do yourself a favor and subscribe to the daily newsletter at http://chargedevs.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; so that you can see what is going on in the rest of the world as far as EV is concerned, we in SA still think ox wagon while the rest of the world is moving on. There are numerous cities all over the world who already converted their entire fleets of city buses to EV and here one part of the population focus on our corrupt president and the other part focus on how to get things for which they have not worked for or does not deserve.

Most of the vehicle manufacturers are now into EV development.

Even the guys in Saudi Arabia are realizing that oil wealth is nearing its end are are busy making other plans.
Read articles like:
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-saudi ... SKCN0XM1CD" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/26/world ... .html?_r=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Everybody is always fast to shoot down the Chinese but so much have changed in China over the past 6 years. I read an article the other day that China is the second most innovative country in the world, spending the second most on research and development. SO they are not the copy cats we used to know years ago, they are becoming the technology masters.

China are already mass producing cheap EV. In some areas in China no new government vehicles are allowed unless they are EV. China has the biggest pollution in the world and they do not produce their own oil and that is why they take EV development most seriously of all countries.

Yes, it LOT of development is going into electric cars. and a few cities are nice examples of what can be the norm in the not too distant future.

Going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
