Need veterinary advise

Post by Dingo »

I suppose it's still a medical type question.

Are there any Vets on the forum or anyone in the know how?

My Staffie female is in season and my male is going bananas ( poor bugger ), went to the Vet today to see if I could get any pills to stop the season, but these pills are no longer available. The only option is to keep the dogs separated or send the female to the kennels.

The kennels cost R130/day and that's quite heavy as a season can last upto 3 weeks.

So here's my question:

In the 3 week cycle of the season when is the female at the most danger and most susceptible to conceive. I'd like to time it right to send her to the kennels.

Toe my teef in hitte was het my rottie ook mal gegaan.

Ja, those pills were stopped because there were bad side effects in some cases, some resulted in sterility. Keeping them apart is one thing, but you (and your neighbours) will have to put up with a lot of whining, so the better option is to take the male to the kennels. I've tried sprays without much success - would also be interested in the product name of that spray.

I'm not a vet, but as I understand it, the most fertile period starts after she stops spotting (about five to seven days after the onset of her season) ...... often she will keep the male away from her in that initial period.

I sometimes wonder why no-one has yet come up with a working design for a canine chastity belt.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

@ 4x4BEES - thank you for the info, off to the pet shop now.
@ FD - they are beautiful puppies and become even better when they grow. Problem is that my male is a rather large rotti :acute: :acute: and the staffie has only just turned 1yr old.

@ MD - I heard something similar that the female will only stand in the last week of the cycle, basically when she stops spotting.

I only want to spay her at about 2yrs old as I believe that 'coming into season' is important in a dogs growth.

Het my Lab dame laat regmaak. Week later toe ek by die huis kom was daar nie 'n plant, gras, blomme, besproeing of honde kaste oor nie! My vakansie was nie so duur nie, maar die skade was.
