Re: ZANZIBAR
Well, you're gonna have to fly sometime to get to Zanzibar, or swim, or take a ferry... Snorkel on a Lux ain't gonna work.
Doesn't matter driving or flying, would like to know what its like on the island.

Re: ZANZIBAR
True, but you can drive Dar, catch a ferry, well that's what most people do

Re: ZANZIBAR
Awesome place, we took a plane there in 2007. Cheapest 2 week holiday of my life. Be warned it is very primitive and extremely hot. I probably took like a 1500 photo in the time we were there. Make sure when you visit the markets and shop to say you are from South Africa, prices drops about 40%. When you switch on a T.V you only get SABC1;2;3;4 & E-T.V. Make sure to visit Mercury house in Stone Town, it is one of the houses Freddy Mercury grew up in, it is a awesome restaurant today. Not a lot of people know that he was born and grew up there. And if you would like to treat the lady a bit make sure you take some extra cash for a tanzanite. Bought my wife some earrings at next to nothing.
Would love to go back in the next year or to. We want to put our 4x4 on the train to JHB and then drive from there to Tanzanie.

Re: ZANZIBAR
Tks OOOOMS en Rooies,
Swamb's is working Dec, (when I plan to go some 4x4ing in the sand in KZN). Her leave is now in Oct, and I also need a break sirriass.
So Zanzibar popped out of a newspaperpage over the weekend, and it's very cheap- app R 15k for 7 days, 4 people, flights + accom.
I only have a week, and we're DV going to drive to Tanzania, Kenia, Serengeti etc July 2012.
So I maybe wanted to fly this time, & catch the ferry from Dar like Mark said.
But I was wondering, until Rooies posted.... Tks

Re: ZANZIBAR
Forget the resorts when you get there. Get up to Nungwi on the northern tip of the island & book into one of the backpacker joints there. You can get a decent room with own shower & toilet for under $20/night. There are also stacks of restaurants & pubs on the beach there with decent food at good prices.

Re: ZANZIBAR
Me and the missus went in 2008.We stayed in Paje.more to the south. It was awsome.
We rented a motorbike for a couple of days and it was great. We had the freedom to explore places that the average tourist couldn't.
Try and go on the Safari Blue http://www.safariblue.net/.Just remember a lot of the locals will try and sell you the Safari blue packaged, but you have to go on the "official one".
Also remember that your hotel will organise all the trips for you at a premium. For instance we paid $100 per person for the safari blue. When we got there the company only charged $50 for the whole expedition That was the last time we made used of there option.
Would I go again.HEL YEAH
