Sani Pass route Lesotho

Post by WayneSchalk »

Hi have got myself into a situation where I will be traveling to to Lesotho tomorrow via the Caledonspoort border.

Is it advisable to exit out via Sani Pass orr do I have to return to Caledonspoort? And is it save enough to travel alone?

Once in Caledonspoort, where do you have to go to?

Fairly safe travelling alone, just be prepared should you get snowed in(food, water, warm clothing), can take a week before roads are opened if you are unlucky.......

In to Butha-Buthe and from there on the A1 to the following co ordinates -28.982466,28.8518

Its a mine, we installed a telecoms solution there and they need some upgrades. I thought while the company is paying for the travel costs why not head on home via Sani

Letseng myn, van daar af is dit 'n goeie 6 uur se ry na Sani, as jy nie by 08h00 ry nie gaan jy nie Sani maak nie. Die pad tot by die myn is OK erig, was so 2 maande terug daar (net pot-holes). Daarna is die pad baie sleg en mag jou langer as 6 uur neem.....

I was on the Eastern Cape side of Lesotho earlier today, went over Naudes Nek pass and Lundeans Nek pass near Tiffendale, low range 4WD all the way in thick snow. Took about 3hours to get over both passes. conditions at Sani are usually worse. Will post some pictures when I'm back in the office. Overnighting at Sterkspruit, yip some of us have nice jobs.

If you don't own an FJ Cruiser you probably won't understand...
Until we meet on a dusty road someday, somewhere, keep on Cruisering....

   You can say that again!

I think a lot of snow fell over the weekend.....yes indeed it did, I just spoke to Halfway Honeydew and on Friday they could not get to the mine, and had to sleep over in Fouriesburg. Only on Saturday could they get to the mine......

Then on Sunday they drove to Sani, and apparently they had a few close calls...... :o: But it was do-able :wink2:
