Hi All
I hope all is well.
We are planning to visit Motel DO Mar in Ponta for the weekend from the 20th September until the 26th of September 2012.
I have been advised to take the road over Amsterdam to Kosi Bay. This is the road with less road works.
Question here , I am going with my 2 and a Half year old daughter. We need to stay over close to the Border post. What place would you recommend ?
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Ponta Do Ouro

Re: Ponta Do Ouro
I do the Ermelo, Piet Retief trip regularly from Pretoria/JHB.
At the moment my advice is go Via Middleburg, Hendrina, Eremelo, Piet Retief to Pongola.
There is a short section of roadworks just outside Ermelo on the Piet Retief road. The rest is good
The road via Amsterdam is good but adds a few km to the trip. I find the short delay with the roadworks is quicker than going via Amsterdam.
There are a couple of stop go's between Piet Retief and Pongola.
If you want Accomodation in Pongola, also try Elsabe at the Rose Garden.
Just outside Pongola on the Richards Bay side. On an existing farm. Very nice.

Re: Ponta Do Ouro
I regularly trave a bit further north, up to and beyond Tete.
My experience is the closer to Maputo and up the coast to Vilanculos, the road blocks (24 hrs a day) and the corruption are a pain.
WATCH the speed limit. it changes constantly from 100/80/60 and sometimes 30kph, and the cops are only too happy to hand out fines.
Have a fire ext. handy as well as one of those blaze orange or flourescent green safety jackets, they will tell you that it is now a requirement and rather than argue the toss with an arrogant cop and his/her AK47 wielding accomplice, rather have the stuff.
Have a good trip.
