Hi Stephan, went down the Natal Coast, but cannot recall seeing Mapalaan. If you give me more of an indication of the place you are talking about, I may be able to give you a little information...

At the Kosi Bay Nature Reserve, there is a camping place where we stayed. The permits to get into the Kosi Bay Nature Reserve are also obtained here. They only have power for a three to four hours a night. They do have a bar & pool area as well.
Thirty to forty Kms south is a place called The Palms or Three Palms Resort, which also has camping. This has 24 hour power supply & is very neat & clean. It is not against the coast, but a few kms inland, just off the main road to the southern part of the Cosy Bay Reserve.
Near Hluhluwe(couple of kms south) we stayed at the Bush Baby Lodge & Camping which was also near enough to see the area & to get an early start into The Hluhluwe/Infolozi Park.
I think that Black Rocks is just a bit North of Mabibi & Seven Mile Reef is South of there, which we did not know about & so did not make time to get to, when the planning was done, so will have to return to see these. Apparently Seven Mile Reef camping is on the Beach, which will be a lot better than Mabibi, which has a lot of stairs built out of planking to get to the Beach. The water there is also not potable & the showers are dark & dingy, so have a lantern handy, even at midday if you want to shower. There are also no lights in the ablutions.
Hope this has been of assistance.
