10 nights/ 10 days trip - ideas please

Post by JohanM »

Ok guys

so here is the request.

10 days & 10 nights trip departing from Parys and return to Parys which route/ destination points would you choose and why??? :cooldude:

Back ground for the short break away.
2 x 4x4 Toyota Vehicles = Prado V6 & 2.7i IFS D/C Hilux.
5/6 adults traveling in two vehicles with possibly 2x teenagers.
Fully self sufficient for extended overlanding, thus back roads or short stop overs is easy accommodated. Would prefer much less traveled places and roads...

Give some ideas or places you stayed over that was nice.....

Johan,
1) Because of where you are and the short time you have available to you I would go to Botswana. You also do not say when you want to go, but I presume it is a short break in December. Most Game Parks would have been booked a year in advance, but you could be lucky if you want to try and book Ihaha in Chobe. You may also need to book at some of the other places, as it could be busy over school holidays.
1) Gabarone Makalodi Backpackers & Hotel Lodge south of the Capital.
2) Khama Rhino Sanctuary west of Serowa
3) Kubu Island
4) Elephant Sands
5) Kasane (Chobe Lodge Camp pay for camping - At same time book 15h00 boat cruise for 5th day. At same time book 6th day Shuttle Trip to Vic Falls in their kombi or bus.
Then take a drive to The Chobe Gate entrance where you can pay for your entry into Chobe National Park for a 5th morning drive along the river front. You can exit the
park near Ngoma Gate where you drive back to Kasane along the tar road 0r just return along the upper road in the Park.
6) Early start into Chobe & get back to park vehicles & set up camp in Chobe camp as you will get back from your boat trip after dark. The boats leave about 15h00 from
between the Hotel & the camp site, so an easy walk.
7) Pack up camp and park your vehicles at Chobe Lodge parking area next to reception. Take Shuttle to Vic Falls, not too expensive & less hassel than taking your own
vehicles through into Zim with road taxes, etc. When you return you drive back to Gazungula and camp at Senyati Lodge Camp on the the southern side next to the A33
main Road to Francistown about 3 km south of Gazungula. Bit expensive camp but you need to experience it at least for one night. Nice waterhole where the animals
come and drink.
8) Return south on your way home to Nata Bird Sanctuary.
9) Gabarone Makalodi Backpackers & Hotel Lodge south of the Capital.
10) Back to Parys.

2) If you do not want to leave the RSA then you would have to go to Norther Cape (Richterveldt, etc.) , or,
3) Northern Natal to visit the game parks an drive the dune fields...

You could also consider the Wild Coast (former Transkei). Lots of scenic routes on the way there and back and of course the Wild Coast highlights themselves.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
