Fotografiewerkswinkels by die Taalmonument

‘n SLR-kamera (digitaal of 35mm), driepoot en afstandbeheerkabel is noodsaaklik.

Bespreking is noodsaaklik by Amira Clayton by tel. 021 863 0543/4809 of kommunikasie@taalmonument.co.za.

Photography workshops at the Taalmonument

This summer photographers can learn to paint with light and to photograph star trails at photography workshops offered at the Taalmonument in Paarl.

These practical workshops, by professional photographer and registered tour guide Peter Haarhoff, are suitable for beginner and intermediate photographers. A single lens reflex (SLR) camera digital or 35mm), a tripod and a cable release is essential.

The Star Trails photography workshops are presented on the same evenings as the Stargazing Picnics - on 30 November 2013, as well as on 4 January, 1 February and 1 March 2014. At these workshops participants will learn to use the BULB setting on their cameras to record star trails as the stars move around the southern pole star. They will learn which times are best, how to calculate the exposure, and how to improve composition. Other topics include white balance and ISO, noise and noise reduction, the difference between 35mm and digital photography and which software to use to combine images.

The Paint with Light photography workshops are presented on the same evenings as the Full-moon Picnics - on 16 November and 17 December 2013, as well as on 17 January, 15 February and 15 March 2014. To paint with light is a technique used by photographers that involves a long exposure as you walk around in the shot with a light source like a torch, selectively illuminating areas and adding splashes of colour. At the workshops participants will learn different ways to paint with light, which accessories you need and which camera settings work best.

“Just because it ‘s dark doesn’t mean you have to stop taking photographs,” says Haarhoff. “To paint with light is easy to master, and will allow hours of fun after the sun has set.”

The workshop fee of R350 includes notes. Limited space is available therefore booking is essential. Contact Amira Clayton at tel. 021 863 0543/4809 or kommunikasie@taalmonument.co.za.
