Ranking

Post by pietpetoors »

I want to implement a ranking system on the website. I am sure you have seen this on other forums before. A member gets a certain ranking according to the number of posts he have made?

I need suggestions as to what to use as ranking system. I do not want to use novice to expert and I do not want to use extremely scientific plant names as some other people do.

I need suggestions from our members please! :D

This is going to require some thought... :)

Generally, the more advanced a vehicle becomes, the worse its capabilities seem to be, so it's difficult to use SFA, IFS, etc. Therefore it's probably not a good idea to use these acronyms :P

The rating should also not conflict with what vehicle information a member might state in his signature!

Maybe something like: Tar Road, Gravel Road, Rocky Trailer, Sand Trailer, Water Crossing, Mountain Goat.... heh-heh... dunno!

I thought of 3y, 4y, 22R up to Lexus V8, but thought perhaps a guy with a 22R would be offended if we call him a 3Y? And some non technical people will have no clue what a 3y or 4 y is.

Evolution and not performance

Post by ratel's raider »

Hey piet

Maybe an idea to move away from the 4x4 aspect and look at the history of how the hilux came around. That way we follow the evolution of the hilux and not performance so no one will get upset and no loyalties stepped on. This method we will need a thread on the history of the toyota hilux that you can customize to explain each model and how many postings are necessary to become that model. I have the whole history if you deceide to go along with it. Or wikipedia has it on the net.

An example: newbie : 1935 Type GI
1947 Toyopet Model SB
1964 Toyota Stout
1969 Toyota Hilux
1979 Toyota Hilux 4x4 SFA
Most experienced 1998 Toyota Hilux 4x4 IFS

There are plenty models for number of posts.

What about the pieces of a Chess Board

Post by SYRON CONVERSIONS »

Just an idea.

On a chess board you get the Pawns, thus new members could be
HILUX PAWNS

Then when you have 50 posts you become a
HILUX CASTLE

Then as soon as you have 100 posts you become a
HILUX KNIGHT

Then for 150 posts you are then a
HILUX BISHOP

Then for 200 posts you become a
HILUX KING if you are a man
Hilux Queen if you are a lady

And once you get to 500 posts you become a
HILUX CHECK MATE

The various cards of playing cards could also be used as
Hilux 1
Hilux 2
then to 10
then Hilux Jack, Queen, King, Ace, Joker

Saw on an American web site

Crawling Guru for new members
Rock Crawler 100 posts
Axle Twister 200 posts
Full Flex 300 posts
Rock Master 500 posts

The amount of posts could be decided on still

Ranking

Thank you for all the very good suggestions regarding the ranking system. It was not easy to choose one between all of them.
I decided to go the 2WD 4WD route.
I posted a sticky at
viewtopic.php?p=348#348
and it is at the same category as the "welcome" message.

Do we really need a ranking system. Definately not according to the number of postings. Some would post dozens a day and actually have nothing worthwhile to say. Check out the overland forum and you will se what I mean.

I think the current system it is OK for now as it is but if we see it becoming a problem then we can always change it later on. On the Nissan forum there is a similar system which is based on tyre sizes and it works OK without anybody posting just for sommer.

If you look at the various overseas web sites, they all have this renking thing, I do not take it seriously, it is only a fun thing, maybe goes back to the army days, I actually preferred to be a Private in the army, because if you were a private (rifleman) you were looked upon as stupid, dumb and thus did not volunteer for anything, but in these various web sites what difference does it make?

I try and add threads that can benefit other people, posts that can draw new people (members) to this web site for example and thus I will also be able to learn from other people as well.

Thankyou
