Bakkie slide

Post by oxydog »

I would like to install a good bakkie slide in my Vigo D/Cab. Can anyone recommend a good product? I have Frontrunner's installed in my SFA, but I'm shopping around a bit to see if I can find one that can carry a bit more weight. The other one gave way a bit after, in all honesty, I've overloaded it a couple of times. I have a NL 80l s/steel fridge (42 kg's empty), so that already adds 60 - 80 kg's before I start loading anything else (in other words the EXTRA Heineken).

OK, so I've obtained a couple of quotes from various suppliers, and it seems the sturdiest one is from LA Sport (400kg). Anyone ever fitted one of these? It's not that much more expensive than Frontrunner's (rated only at 150kg).

Jarus, is that the one with the x8 roller bearings on each side? If so not bad

This was the reply from the supplier:

'The slider system runs on a set of heavy duty bearings.
It can carry a heavy load estimated at around 400 kg.'

If it is the type that has the sealed single bearings, not a bad slide imho

Hi Oxydog,
Please post pics when you've installed, I'm also considering a slide for my DC.

Jo, pics as promised. It looks exactly the same as the one in my SFA, but the guys at LAS assured me that they (Frontrunner) recently upgraded it to be stronger. Looks like they used stronger steel beams and a stronger sheet.

Fully drawn - imagine not having to crawl to the back to retrieve the cold Heineken. Now stop imagining that and get one!

Amazing the load that those bearings can take. I also have my own heavyduties.

OK, I've measured the slides on both my trucks. (Remember, both Front Runners).

Old slide:
  • Steel sides thickness - 2 mm
  • Wooden floor panel - 5 mm
New slide:
  • Steel sides thickness - 3 mm
  • Wooden floor panel - 15 mm
Based on this, I'll have to believe them that the new slide can carry 400 kg as opposed to the old one's 150 kg.
