Hilux 4x4 Forum

Has anyone tried one of these pickup campers which fits on a Hilux? I am thinking of ordering one from them at http://www.pickupcampers.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
Your opinions or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Welcome Michael. yeah, lots of info here... Depending on your requirements a camper like that will work nicely, provided that you can remove the whole thing and use your vehicle once the camp is set up..

The Klipspringer is nice but I like to have my comfort in the bush. The pickup camper has all facilities inside without having to put up tents etc. There is a Queen size double bed as well as a dinette where you can sit and work on your photos etc. My wife likes the convenience of having the stove and wash up sink with hot water right there. We have ordered a roll up awning for the side of the camper. The pickup camper can also be easily off loaded from the Hilux when we reach camp leaving us free to drive around without the camper if we want to.

It looks nice and I lick the idea, sorry, Like the idea that it is not hanging over the back like some campers do. If the camper extend over the back of the load bin it places extra load on the chassis which might cause it to break. Personally, if I dont use my van for anything else, I would prefer this to a roof top tent.

I'll lick that klipspringer untill its sitting on the back of my bakkie :) hehe!

Agreed, that overhanging part does place a lot of strain on the chassis. There are pictures of a Hilux paperclip somewhere with a camper unit on the back somewhere on the forum... Being a rooftopper myself, we have lately started exploring the ground tent way of camping specifically to avoid the tedious job of breaking camp everyday to go for a drive... We're liking it more and more..

Ek "lick" my grond tent, maar dink ook daai kampers is nice!!

My pa het so ruk gelede 'n 4x4 trailer gekoop en dit moet ek se werk baie goed as jy gan 4x4 los jy die trailer by die kamp en jy het al die geriewe wat net 'n gewone tent jou nie bied nie,Ons gaan hom beslis die jaar nog baie gebruik!Maar ja ek stem saam met die daktent idee dit werk nie so lekker nie teensy jy 'n manier kan kry dat jy jou hele daktent op stilasies kan laat staan en die bakkie onder uit trek as jy wil gan trials ry of iets sonder om heeltyd die tent te moet afslaan.
