Cheap camping equipment / accessories

Post by OOOOMS »

I thought it may be of assistance to start this thread and hear from all you experienced bushman and bushladies, re. camping tricks, equipment, solar panels, RTT, awnings to fire-lighters or tools.

It would assist others if you could add a price, pic or a link and possibly where you purchased.

Looking forward to everyone's input

As long as it is not cheap and nasty.

My experience wit equipment in Boksburg is that you'll struggle to beat Tentco with price and quality. They stock an impressive range, not only tents.

Where can I find these 'easy-dry' shirts the guys use for fishing? The one that has a horisontal breather slit on the back?

I know where I can find em for R499.00 but not prepared to pay that for a camping hempie

You can get these kind of shirts at MrPrice Sport as well. Just fit, them, the sizes are completely wrong.

Fishing shops also a good place to start.

hy wil seker net een hemp saamvat as hy gaan kamp.
Ingeval hy moet dorp toe gaan vir supplies.

En dan kan hy vinnig deur die swembad duik om hom skoon te kry sodat hy droog is teen die tyd dat hy by die winkels moet uitklim.

How does the Campmaster range compare to bigger brands? Makro has some decently priced cargo shorts in the R300 range. There is another brand of shirts/shorts as well, but not the breathable ones though.

Wanted to buy the Campmaster 3x3 gazebo but on closer inspection a sticker on it read :"do not use in any rain". Kinda deafeats the purpose...

Anyway, self have 360° tent + sleeping bags; Natural instincts stretcher. So far so good. Gas eq all Cadac, looking at Alva, doesn't seem to bad.

Personal comment and experience, Campmaster is great for the beginner or once a year camper especially for budget purposes but quality and endurance, does not compare to the other more robust brands!

Ek was Saterdag by Wes Rand Pack, jinne daar is darem maar baie goed.

If you guys in the Cape is looking for some Camp Cover stuff.it is worthwhile going to their factory shop in Kuilsrivier
http://www.campcover.co.za/index.php?op ... 6&Itemid=9
They are cheaper than the retail shops.

For example I paid R370 for the Bundu bag where OW sells it for R430

I have had 2 Campmaster tents, and this second one is brilliant. It weathered a huge rainstorm we had in the Cederberg over Easter, which proved to me that its not all that bad! Everyone and everything inside stayed dry and non of the poles bent or broke!

Even better is the design - it has sleeved metal cord in all the poles so that you don't have to guess what pole matches where! So it sets up quickly and when done, fits back in the bag! :dance1:
