Gas level indicator

Post by Niel »

Saw this jobbie in the SA 4X4 "Gear" section.

It works on LPG cylinders and indicate the level of gas left in the cylinder.

I have a gas level indicator in my bakkie too :D:
but that thing is useless.

It has 4 green lights, and red light when is supposedly empty.
I do up to 150km when the first green light goes out - . By 250km, the red light comes on - :wth: Die ding speel met my gevoelens :D:

I think it has something to do with the way gas is stored, which does not make for good readings :?:

Jare trug het jy so n sticker gekry wat jy op jou gas silinder geplak het. en as jy wil sien hoeveel gas oor in die silinder was het jy n emmer warm water oor die sticker gegooi. silinder word dan warm en die verkleur die sticker. maar daar waar die gas le bly die sticker en silinder koud.

Gert, I think that's the one Niel is talking about. Waste of time if you ask me.

Why not just buy a fishing scale (if in the bush) that weighs up to 20kg and then weigh the gas bottle?
At home you can use your normal bathroom scale.

Gas bottles have the tare weight and the amount of gas it can take printed on the bottom ring.

A number 7 bottle for instance, weighs +-4.6kg empty and can take 3kg of LPG, therefore a full one weihgs in at +-7.6kg.

That's how I check when there sounds like gas but i'm not too sure how much and if there is enough to cook brekkie or run the spit braai.
