brake saga

Post by lukestrugnell »

Right so a mechanic friend of mine was here the last weekend and I thought we sorted out my brakes.

After adjusting rear and bleading the system they were feeling great.

Got in today and they pap again!

Does this mean there is an air leak somewhere? The system is no leaking fluid so am a bit confused.

Help!!!!

Hi Luke maybe the master cylinder is leaking internally

Climb into your vehicle, drivers side, put your foot on the brake pedal, make sure the vehicle is in neutral, start the engine, does your foot go down with the pedal?

Do you have toe board clearance on the brake pedal?

When you adjusted the brakes, was the handbrake release off all the way, which wheel did your friend bleed first if you are sitting in the drivers position?

Did you check the rear brake wheel cylinders if they were leaking, sometimes the front brake calipers can also leak.

I concur with Simon.

Did you overhaul anything?

If you pump the brakes without the car running do they get harder? With them hard do as Simon suggested, your foot should only go down slightly, if it goes all the way, your master cylinder is most probably the cause.
How is the seal between the master cylinder and the brake booster?
Make sure all your bleed nipples are secure!

Ok I have just blead the brakes again and feeling good, all the nipples are tight now and if it happens again it must be master cylinder right?

Before i did what you said: When I start the pedal does go down a bit but not completely to the floor.

Nope didnt overhaul anything just adjusted rear and put new pads on front and blead the system.

What about the Load proportion valve do you need to bleed this? could that be the leak? No obvious signs of fluid leaks there?

If the brake pedal did not go down slightly when you started the engine, this would indicate that you have a problem with the vacumn booster, however it seems to be working fine, sometimes the diaphram inside the booster can leak, the load proportion valve basically allows more braking when the vehicle is loaded, if it was leaking fluid you would see it, but I do not think this is your problem.

Check for a leak, remove the rear drums first.

Then check the front rubber hoses.

Just make sure that you specify which axle your vehicle has in it, maybe their axles are different

Cassie

Not to brake up (pun intended) your air castles again, but again forget about it fitting your van's gearmax diff, the chances are very slim. In any case remember Linda stops working end of march en dan is jy ok 'n armgat soos ek.   I don't think a brake kit at R11,550 plus postage is going to sell like hotcakes here in SA.

Hey Bennie,

Wat meen jy wanneer Linda ophou werk gaan ek armgat wees. Ek kan net dan nogsteeds een wees. :(

I had huge problems with brakes on my Hilux. I even took it to Toyota to try and sort it out, but they only made it worse. I got it to be OK, or so I thought, and then...

Eventually I found this guy:

Waterkloof Glen

No other person will ever be allowed to touch my brakes! This guy was a wizzard!

Luke, step on the brake pedal til it locks. Then release a little bit and press down slowly .if it goes down more tan the first time ,then it is the master silinder seals that bypass.if you step on it hard and it still goes down ,check for torn seals on master and slave silinders and leaks on all the silinders.

Groete aan almal. Net n vraag as jou brake booster intern lek sal die vakuum pyp na die enjin die rem vloeistof deur die enjin suig en die voertuig sal begin rook nie waar of sal die een rigting valve dit verhoed ?
