Hilux 3.0 D4-D Clutch issue

Post by BosveldBul »

Hi Guys

I need some guidance pls.

I bought a 2006 Hilux 3.0 D4-D 4x4 3 months ago. It's an awesome vehicle. I've been driving my '88 1.3L corolla for the past 12 years and it was a welcome upgrade.

My only issue which I recently discovered is with the clutch. It is not slipping at all, as far as I can tell, but when I step on the accelerator and then let the clutch go, I hear a screeching sound. The best I can describe it is a sound I would associate with a unhealthy bearing.

Any idea what this could be? And more importantly, the cost to repair?

Thanks

Jak

Welcome Jak. :mexwave: enjoy the forum.

Your problem could be pilot bearing, thrust bearing, clutch plate, prop shaft universal joints, or propshaft main bearing.

Here are approx costs:
Clutch kit R2,500
Pilot Bearing R50
Flywheel skim R300
Thrust Bearing R950
Propshaft refurb R980

Excl VAT and labour hours. Usual cost for a clutch will be 6 hours labour. Propshaft should be 1 hour labour.

By the way, any suggestions on where I can have it looked at? I'm not a fan of the dealerships, but I'll go there if you reckon it's the place to go.

I stay in Centurion and work in Sandton.

Thanks

Hi Guys i have exactly the same issue regarding my 2006 Hilux 3.0 D4D and now to the end my Gearbox is giving in and whining. The cost on a recon box is R14500-00 +-.
I have never pulled anything a day in my life and the Hiluxas 190 000 km on the clock now.

The scratching sound is getting worst now but i feel mine more to the diff rear propshaft side. I just hope i can get it fixed properly.

Koop olie by Toyota - nerens anders nie! Gearbox SAE 75W - 90 = 2.2L
Transfer SAE 75W - 90 = 1.4L

Kan jou geen skade berokken om die olies meer gereeld te vervang nie.

Ek kan ook bevestig Toyota se techies is nie so toegewyd om die propshaft te ghries nie.

Have you considered the Bosch service agent in Hatfield? They use to be in Church Street just at the old driving range going east towards Silverton.

There are a couple of independant guys in Pretoria like Car Service City, Motolube, to name just 2. There use to be a gearbox place in DF Malan drive as well.

In Gezina there are a number of places that can do gearboxes as well.

Rosslyn also has its fair share of gearbox and driveline specialists.

Maybe get hold of a Yellow Pages, call and ask for references from the service agents.

Many dealers use Gearmax or Ace Gearbox.
