wheel nuts

Post by ChrisF »

Toyota Hilux mags - what type of wheel nuts does this use ?

Two tire shops told me it uses Toyota only nuts, at some rediculous price.

Two tire shops told me, dont worry, it uses normal "mag nuts" and they claim to have stock at R15 per nut ....

so who is missing their last two active grey sells .....

I can get a secondhand set of Toy mags, BUT not sure if this includes the nuts. So I need to be sure on this one before I commit to a price.

LOCK NUTS, do one get this for the Hilux ? $?

dankie vir die hulp manne

Chris

Hi Chris

The Hilux nuts differ from the normal platkar nuts in that they have a shank, hope I'm right with the term (looks like a washer but fixed to the nut itself and able to roate but does not come off). It may be a mission to get them but maybe someone knows a place where you can get them at a decent price. Let's wait and see... :beach:

You can also get the lock nuts with a shank from Tiger Wheel n Tyre, go for the MacGaurd and not the cheaper versions.

CJ I am waiting to hear from the gent regarding the Toyota mags. Then to go have a look at it .... :)

I have asked if he has a set of nuts (for the wheels that is...)

The idea is to get a set of 15'' mags. My next option is to get a set of 235/70-16 tires for my current rims. But then I still need to get at least one more of the SRX metal rims ....

Mark I am staying with the metal 16'' rims, the 15'' route has just to many issues attached to it. And sadly out of my budget for now .... (this does mean that I MUST buy at least one SRX rim though)

It was a very interesting learning curve though.

For interest sake:
standard steel rims have standard wheel nuts, with a specific angle on the nut where it "holds" the rim.

aftermarket mags use very similar nuts, BUT the contact angle between the nut and rim is different ! These nuts cost about R12 per nut and is normally included in the cost of a set of rims. (but there are only a few 15'' mags available for the hilux, even less which are 7J. All the new rims are 16'' ...)

Then the Hilux mag nuts are similar to the RR nuts, with a "little shaft on the nut" that extends through the Hilux rim. Toyota wants R40 per nut ....

Een ding wat almal vergeet om te sê, is dat die gewone nuts almal verchroomde staal is en die Toyota nuts stainless steel is!

Check with bolt and nut suppliers .... they may well have the SS ones as well at a fraction of the dealer price.
