Safety belt recoil issue

Hi guys,

Wondering if someone give some advice. The front safety belts of my Lux (2002 IFS D/C) recoil very slowly when it comes to the last 30cm or so once you've released them. The recoil is fine the rest of the time with no issues, its just that final piece. The belts are in good condition without any damage. Vehicle is accident free.

Is there something I can do to sort this out? I would imagine they would be expensive to replace from the stealers as they have the pre-tensioners for the RS.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You can maybe wind op the coil a bit tighter. Had to clean one of my vans units out after parking in some muddy water. Be careful when opening though

I had to open one once as it got stuck.....
Ballbearing and spring all over the show.....
Had to buy a new one.....

Safety equipment is better to replace than repair, does yours have airbags or not!

Yes, it has the airbags. I was also thinking that replacing is the best bet, just wanted to see if it might be a minor "fix" with a squirt of Q20 or an equivalent would resolve the issue before spending money on new ones. And also wanted to see who else had the same problem. Many thanks!

Ya that is a different ball game as those have the pre-tensioners etc and is not as plain as my vans which just operates with centrifugal forces

I think they all like that. Mine does the same and JvDS's one is also the same.

I also opened a seatbelt unit once with the same result, balls came out, stuffed it up completely and had to buy a new one.
So whatever you do not open it.

I just learned to live with it. Biggest frustration is sometimes your forget about it, get out of the bakkie, slam the door closed and then it hits the seat belt fitting in the door because the seatbelt did not wind up all the way yet.

Jip mine was the same.In the service manual they also state clearly.DO NOT OPEN

I tried to get safety belts for Mufasa (1984/6 DC Hilux). I couldn't find safety belts that are exactly the same. The front ones have a small pin that goes into the body. The IFS ones does not have this pin, or the pin is not at the same place.

What are the best option to replace safety belts? Will companies like Securitech refurbish your old safety belts?

Dit is nie onmoontlik om oop te maak nie, ek het en ek kon hom weer aan mekaar kry (ek moes hom skoon maak van modder). Wees net baie versigtig as jy hom oop maak. As jy in elk geval oppad is om nuwe een te koop kan jy mos kyk of jy nie die ou een kan reg kry nie

I replaced my crappy brown ones (original) with a complete new black set from Midas, I think I paid about R250, good quality,,gives a nice secure ride, used all the original securing points and even the bolts worked as well, nice strong tensioners, you can also get a set from SecureTech, however as you say you have the airbags etc, on my old SFA I have the steering wheel as an airbag hope you come right, have also opened one and nearly took an eye with all the springs and ball bearings
