Long range tank cracked

Post by Ultred »

Hi All

I have a plastic long range tank on my Hilux 2000 D/C (underneath by the spare wheel) that is leaking bad. Does any one know where I could find the same type of tank. Would like to use the same pipework and bracket and just change the tank but I don't know where to find. Or if someone knows of an alternative option I am all ears.

Mine also used to have a plastic tank and after the exhaust burnt a hole into it, it was replaced with a stainless steel unit

I removed my 100 liter plastic tank due to a leak in it . At work we have a crop sprayer called a Cima that has a 600 liter plastic tank on it, this tank got a crack in it and we had it plastic welded. It lasted about 3 months before it cracked again in the same place.I am at the moment talking to a person from Maroun's group in Cape town , they sell paint and all sorts to the motor industry and they advertise a plastic welding machine that they use for repairing plastic bumpers and all plastic parts. They told me that they do not know how successful it is with a tank that has pressure in it , but they are coming to Springbok sometime next month and we are going to try welding the old tank and see. If it looks like it will work then we will consider buying one. They price at about R2500. So, will see and get back to you about this.
If one is going to use a plastic tank I would maybe use a good steel guard around the tank, I lost nearly 50 liters of petrol due to a small hole on the side.

At the price of fuel it's not worth taking the risk with a plastic tano where you can loose all you fuel m2cw
