Diff Breather Kits... Still for sale Order Now!

Post by MOFASA »

Hi Hiluxers....

I have been looking around and (no offence to the people thet sell diff breather kits) I just couldn't find what i wanted in kit form...
So I hunted for parts and have come up with a supplier thea will supply me with all the parts...
I am going to see him on friday around 14H00 and then I will have a confirmed price....
They should sell for around R200 to R250 and the piping comes in many colours....
I will post pics of the different colours of pipe after i have seen him on friday...

I have also designed a little bracket that i will supply if needed, it will be aluminium or stainless steel (still waiting to see the cost on these)

So far this is what the kit will consist of.....

All the fittings are quick coupling all you have to do is push the pipe into it and its done.....

2X 1/8 BSP 90 degree swivel bends OR 2X 1/8 BSP straight connectors.... (your choice) sorry no pic on the straight one yet.
1X Y connector (to join the 2 diffs together)
1X Brass Filter
1X Filter connector
10m X 6mm hose

If there are any of you interested in these kits please let me know so i can see if I can get a better price.....

Do you know if the threading on the coupler is the same as that of the KZ?

I just googled 5 other forums and they all seem to use 1/8 so it seems that toyota is a standerd 1/8 thread.....

They will fit your diffs....

This is from 1 site....

NOTE:
Officially I would think the thread is either M10-1.0 or 1/8" BSP but its close enough for gov't work :)
NPT = National Pipe thread Tapered, and it is 0.407" (10.2mm) OD with 27 TPI (threads per inch)
M10-1.0 is 10mm OD and 1.0 mm thread pitch (or 25.4 TPI)
BSP = British Standard Pipe thread, and it is 0.407" (10.2mm) OD with 28 TPI (threads per inch)
So you can see the three are VERY close and for the few threads in the housing and the fact that pipe threads are tapered (meaning the male thread starts out small and gets larger in diameter as it threads in, female thread is the opposite) an 1/8NPT thread fits fine for this low pressure, low stress application, YMMV.

I might be blond but what is the bracker for??

Do you want to lasercut the bracket or punch it out?
If the quantities justifies it you might think of having a tool built to blank it out..

If I am not mistaken but I think that bracket is for mounting the breather once you have relocated it.

I bought a BSP 1/8 for my vigo 2006 rear diff breather, but it did not fit. Ended up ordering one from 4x4 direct. I like the bracket. Will make mine using a piece of alu angle. Where does one end the top of the pipe for the rear breather.

Yes the bracket is for mounting the filter in the engine compartment on the firewall.....
I was thinking lasercut but punched is fine too as long as it is the cheapest option cos i dont want to rip people off......

What was the size that fitted??
The front and rear diff join using the Y connector and mount onto the filter which is held in place using the bracket....

By relocating the diff breathers higher it prevent the diff from sucking in water when wading through water.

1/8" BSP will work on the IFS, Tuna & Vigo diffs as well, only need for the rear. I have supplied to a few owners before. The filter could be routed to the fuel cap enclosure

The "filters" are actually silencers used in pneumatic applications. If one wants to use the button type silencer the cost will go up to R150 for the silencer + bulkhead fitting that goes with it...1/4" thread if memory serves.

Double that if you want to keep the front & rear seperate on an SFA, add the cost of the 2 diff couplers & 5m of tubing and you'll be at R450+ per kit excl a bracket.

Use 8mm tubing & fittings. The straight connectors are better on the diffs IMO.

The challenge is with the bulkheads, 2 yrs ago they were R120 each; got them cheaper from a OEM manufacturer that supplied me out of his stock, catch was that I had to buy 10 units minimum. At the time I could supply for R350 a full kit. Last one I did was R380-ish due to ex-stock.

You could look at the banjo fittings as opposed to the y conector, but I doubt if there would be any savings there.
