4Y Rev counter not working

Post by Ogre »

Please help!
Where must I start looking for the problem, what's the color code of the rev counter wire or from where to where does the wires go. I'm close to start using alcohol or something.

Not sure .... think it picks up the pulse from the coil. Might just be a loose wire.

Havent worked on a 4Y in ages but if i remember correctly it has a 2 pin plug on the distributor - one is ignition feed in to the system and other is Revcounter output , cannot for the life of me remember if it picks up Revcounter signal from the Igntition module or directly from coil though but the signal gets generated at the dissy so best bet would be to start testing from their , ideally with an oscilloscope to see if you receive any kind of signal going out to the revcounter

As far as I can recall there is a rev counter connection pipe that goes into the engine close to the spark plugs? I had that issues once after headgasket blew. and the guys forgot to attach this pipe.

It is Black with red dots on. The on that is black with the red stripe in is the ignition.

Proper term is Mothers Milk, which by the way you have not supposed to have stopped. Hope you are sorted out

Ok the wiring for the Ignition(Black wire with red stripe) and the Revcounter(Black wire with red dots) will run just behind the battery towards the engine. Easy way to look is to id your watersensor on the head, look for the wire(sure the colour is yellow/green), this will run into the same harness as the ignition and rev counter harness.
