Re: Gearbox oil for 2700i IFS
I buy all my oil from the dealers. I have an auto and the correct oil from Toyota is cheaper than Autozone or Midas.

I used Shell Spirax 80W90 for the diffs and gearbox about 5 years ago.
Still going strong.

Howzit Ismail.........The correct Manual Transmission oil you looking for is 75W-90 and the transfer-case takes the same oil as the gearbox

Re: Gearbox oil for 2700i IFS
a Quick search will reveal a number of threads on gearbox oil. I used Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle in my 3lt D4D 4x4 for both the gearbox and transfer case. It is more expensive oil but is full synthetic and it has greatly improved the smoothness of gearshifts.

Re: Gearbox oil for 2700i IFS
Thanks for all the replies, problem is my wifes bakkie, I replaced the oil with Castrol syntrans then the gearbox started to whine, prior to it, was very quiet,
but Im going to replace it just with std Toyota oil and see what happens.

Re: Gearbox oil for 2700i IFS
The Toyota std oil is G475W-90 and the transfer case takes the same.....remember one thing about synthetic oil......once you use it,you can not switch to a different oil again ......the reason for your box making a noise,is that the oil is to thin......

The dealers also told me G475W-90 but they don't have it. They use 80W90 .Joe-Tech wrote:The Toyota std oil is G475W-90 and the transfer case takes the same.....remember one thing about synthetic oil......once you use it,you can not switch to a different oil again ......the reason for your box making a noise,is that the oil is to thin......

Re: Gearbox oil for 2700i IFS
Castrol syntrans is also 75w-90 so it is the exact same viscosity as the prescribed Toyota oil. It is definitely not "thinner" than the Toyota oil. If you look in the car manual you will see that it meets or exceeds the Toyota specifications.
Synthetic oil and minersl oil should not be mixed. If you drain it completely and leave the plug out for a while until no oil drains out and refill it with mineral oil it will be fine.
Did you drive the bakkie from new? It could be that it was noisy and was filled with diff oil to hide the noise. It is very, very unlikely that the syntrans could have damaged the gearbox.
