EGR Blank off or clean

Post by sir shrek »

Hi Guys

My 2008 3.0 D4D with 178000km has a lot of turbo lag below 2000rpm. Now if spoken to a few guys and some says it might be injectors and some say EGR.
The Hilux pulls like a steam train above 2000rpm but really lacks power below. If driven a few other D4D and they are more responsive and better overall drive ability in town and slow conditions.

So is it possible the EGR is faulty or stuck and can the EGR be the cause of my problems.
If so, do I just clean it or blank it off completely.

Thanks

Ja, an EGR is just a POS!!!

Blowing hot air into an engine - can you imagine what I will do to the clown who invented this?

Combining the blank also cut out the cat - same principal as above - restrict the hot air to leave the engine.

I am not that clued up with diesels, EGR??? My 2008, 2.5D4D is extremely sluggish below 2000 rpm, could it be the same problem? And, how do I go about to block the EGR? I already de-catted my Hilux and installed a chip and intercooler.

EGR = Exhaust gas recirculation
Basically exhaust gasses are blown into your intake manifold on deceleration and idling. ie when the pedal is not depressed.
Not sure if the 2.5 has it though.

Blank the EGR. It is the worst design ever in my opinion! Cut a solid gasket and install it between the flanges - as easy as that. You will notice a difference in performance.

EGR design is too clean the gasses even more before it goes out the exhaust.

So with it blanked off, you might see a few more smoke puffs from the rear.

But blanking it off works indeed.

What do you use as a gasket? Flexoid or something similar or do you use another material that is more heat resistant?
