batterye, batterye en nog batterye .....

Post by ChrisF »

Seems I will get to know the battery suppliers this winter ..... :o: :slap:

And so my beloved Elders decides to start "swinging slowly" on cold mornings .... that sure sign of a battery on the way out .....

But what size battery does the 2,5D-4D use ???
DSCN2443 (Small).JPG
Is it the "652PS" number ??? waarvoor staan die PS ?

Cant find anything on the forum ....

Cant find the battery size in the owners manual .....

ooooo well, hoping the clever guys and gals here can help

But the thread title did refer to more than one battery .... :blushing: :blackeye:

The deep cycle in the back of Elders has seen better days .... charge as you like, tomorrow morning the voltage is 12,4V .....

will have to replace this baby before the camping season starts .....

QUESTION - stay with the classic deep cycle ? OR is it time to go with a Lead Crystal ?

Has to be the same physical size of a 105Ah deep cycle as there simply is no more space for anything larger in the current layout of Elders.

But wait, there is more. .... :frustrated:

The little scooter watched the play unfold and now also swings slowly, and is also on the way out.

Got one of the baby Ctek models from our friendly 4x4 store ..... may just buy me a bit of time, but the writing is on the wall ....
DSCN2436 (Small).JPG
DSCN2437 (Small).JPG
DSCN2438 (Small).JPG

:surrender: :surrender:

Chris, stick to the 652 (or the next larger size if it fits), don't bother about Lead Crystal or Deep Cycle batteries, your alternator cannot charge them fully.

Thanks Eric

for the main battery - What is the next size up from the 652 ?

for the second battery - I have the Ctek250S, so can charge the second battery properly. Sadly the gap between our trips are just too much, so the second battery dont get used often enough .... sal maak soos Johan sê en kyk na die AGM vir die tweede battery.

I don't know what the next size up is, I use Raylite 652 batteries for all my vehicles, normally get 7-8 years life out of them. The Lead Crystal batteries apparently fare very badly as a vehicle battery because apart from the alternator charging problems, it appears they do not handle vibration that well.

Replace your 105 ah deep cycle with a Raylite MF101 (102a/h - semi deep cycle). As Johan says they load a lot quicker and can handle a bigger discharge. Nice thing is that they are only a third of the price of Deltec and the like (proudly South African). The price should be about R1.2 - R1.3k and they are also the same physical size as the Deltec 105ah.

Raylite, excide, all the same. When we order we decide which stickers they must put on it.

Ek was in Tshipise toe hy die gees gee so kon darem een kry by Messina Landbou Dienste, Willard 652 vir R1060.00.

Make sense if you look at the dod curves of those 101 batteries. As a truck start battery it would probable never get below 50% but as leisure it might. 500 cycle at 50% is not bad.

somebody did the maths about those 500 cycles versus the number of holidays we get .....

The normal person that only gets one off 2 week holiday per year to actually get away .... it would take more than a life time to get through those 500 cycles ....

the problem is that if you dont maintain it at home it sulphates and dies after 2 or 3 years ....

Hi Chris

i recently needed to replace my vehicle battery ,and i fitted a marine battery ,same length and width as the 652 in my SFA ,but 15mm higher,it still had clearance under the bonnet ,biggest gain on this battery was 3 times the cranking amps ,so many more starts when on a trail, was only R100.00 more than normal one,has two extra terminals as well

What is the code of that battery Martin?

Nice thing about that one is that it also has the studs where you can wire all your extras on.

-vehicles/
Die kolomme is Type, 20 Hour Cap Cn, Reserve Cap Cr,n, Cold Cranking Is, Length, Width, Height

Plse help me with the full detail on that marine battery; the cranking battery on my Cruiser has gone and I intend replacing it with that battery. Is it the Raylite 652 Marine?
Thank you
