Aluminium Canopy Manufacturers - Suggestions Please

Hi Everybody

I hope I have posted in the correct sub-forum... I have searched the forum for 'canopy' but every topic has a reference to that word!

I am finally looking to have an aluminium canopy installed on my 1996 D/C SFA. I have been quoted R16500 to have it manufactured and installed - a canopy with two side doors and a rear door - and also to install my RTT.

My 2 questions area:

Is this a fair price?
Can anyone suggest reputable manufacturers in the Cape Town area that I can contact for other quotes?

I have contacted a few manufacturers - some are way over priced, some are of inferior quality... Any suggestions will be welcome.

Hi.

I bought a used Gomad canopy for my 97 SFA. Also 3 doors. Cost me just under 9.5k. If you want to save some serious money and you are willing to wait I recommend keeping a close eye on the 2nd hand market. I also got a used back bull bar bumper with spare wheel carrier from the same gent for R3000. There are some great deals out there.. I saved at least 50%. it's got a ding here and a scratch there but I'm going to add to those over the years so it doesn't bother me at all.

My canopy has a roof rack so i noticed a massive decrease in wind resistance on tbe roads when i moved it from over the cab to the canopy but I find that my SFA still gets a bit more sluggish on the up hills with it so I prefer to keep it off until we go camping. The height also limits parking in malls and at the office parking lot.

They only do canopies for Hiluxes 2005 and newer... Such a pity, what a great price.

Gomad certainly is good supplier.


Not sure of their prices, but also speak to Heinz at Metallion in Blackheath.

Gomad last quoted me between 14 and 16k for their standard and premium aluminium canopies. This was last year however. Metalian quoted me something closer to 20k - Heinz suggested they don't often make for the older models though, but they can.

I am considering Alu - canopy (Gerbers4wd) in JHB. But I like the Gomad products as they seem to have a very good reputation.

Never heard of ground zero but thats the best new price I've seen - R12 900.
