Warning light

Post by Mikie »

This weekend I got a warning light present itself to me in all its glory causing some alarm

So the Manual tells me to empty the water out of the water trap and life will be good again, I did this, and even changed my fuel filter, and the bugger is still on. Am I missing something? Should I be worried?

When I get that light (which has only happened twice so far) I replace the diesel filter. Those injectors are too expensive to be taking any chances with them.

Plesier

Het dit laas oorgekom op n trip.

By Tsitsikama vol gemaak.

:frustrated: :banned:

I hope it doesnt happen again, I was lucky to still have a filter lying in my garage

Clearly contaminated Diesel

The manual said drain the filter untill water all drained, how do you know when the water is drained?
I pushed the stuff out and all I smelled was diesel, I couldnt tell what was water and what was diesel, hence just changing the filter itself

water lies at the bottom, thus the moment you smell diesel the water is out ... in theory.

but draining did not help me either ...

best just leave a spare filter under the seat for longer trips.

DONT do what I did - leave the spare filter on the shelf in the garage, and then get contaminated diesel ....

Should I go through this again - I will wait until the tank is low, fill 1/4, wait until that is low, then fill full, and only then would I change the filter. Remember this is a particulate filter, NOT meant to filter water .... so you need to drive that stuff out the system, or flush the tank.

If the experienced guys have better advise please help us newbies to diesel.

exactly what I was thinking, the tank probably has water too, I am going to try drive this tank as low as possible before filling up again

That warning light does not only indicate water. It has happened to me twice and in both instances there was no water in the filter housing/separator. The float that floats on the water has it's own set of wires coming out at the bottom. There is some kind of sensor that must detect when pressure in the separator is increasing or dropping. This is the sensor connected to the plug one must remove to reset the warning light.
