Tyre age

Post by oxydog »

Hi,

I am a huge fan of BFG's (using MT KM on my SFA and AT KO on my Vigo). I was just wondering if age could become an issue if you don't put a lot of km's on them (12 000 km / year)? My AT's are 4 years old but only have 50 000 km on them - I don't want to replace them just because of age, unless it can become a risk obviously. They run every day, but I stay 1 km from work (yes I know, it's a blessing).

Any comments welcome!

Jarus, what I have noticed is that if they stand without any use for long periods they tend to get a bit perished. This is usually noticeable as fine surface cracks on the side walls, especially where it bulges at the contact point on the bottom. I also have BF MT KM2's on my SFA which gets less than the mileage you're doing and they're also about 5 or 6 yrs old without any sign of perishing.

What will also have an influence is if the tyres are exposed to the sun all day.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
