hard starting

Post by T COLDICUTT »

hay team i have a 1999 ln167 i have just brought this ute with the knoledge that it can be hard to start in the cold mornings.

it has a new starter motor just had the plunger done new glow plugs cambelt and a full service all b4 i brought it with proof.

when starting the starter motor dis engages alot but only ever on the 1st initial start of the day every start after that it starts 1st pop no issues. is this just the solenoid that is causing this. also it kills the batery really quick even tho it is a big butty batery that is only 3 months old, could my alternater be shot if it kills the battery so quick.

thank you in advance really want to get this sorted as it is frustrating asf.

How old is the truck? Is this the Kzte? I had something similar crop up and it turned out to be perished fuel line between fuel filter and fuel pump. This caused fuel to seep back along the fuel line overnight which meant first start was getting more and more difficult. I replaced the pipe (after a lot of other scratching around and trying other ideas) and she is as good as new. I also found that the factory immobilizer was getting tired as on occasion it would swing with what sounded like fuel starvation. The engine code that it logged said immobilizer so replaced the whole alarm system with aftermarket one and all is well.

Also have the solenoid on the starter checked. It can normally be replaced without replacing the whole starter. Regarding the battery. A diesel - because of higher compression takes more effort to turn over plus the glow plugs are also on at the same time. So a battery works hard if the engine does not fire up on the first 2 or 3 turns.
