ABS LIGHT ON

Post by Weimaraner1 »

Good news is that I solved the problem and I thought I will log a topic, maybe it is of use to someone else.
I have recently had problems with my wife's car's ABS....and now my KZTE.
I started with the diagnosis:
- bridged tc and e1 in the diagnostics port and counted the flashes
- 49 flashes which is the brake switch on the brake pedal
- take out the switch and test it, not faulty
- test the 2 ABS relays, not faulty
- test the wheel speed sensors, not faulty
- check all the fuses, nothing wrong
- check for ground issues, none
- now I suspect the ABS module and I am pulling my hair out and my Sunday is dwindling away.....
- I pressed the brake pedal and switch on the Lux still holding my foot on the pedal and I notice the ABS light is off, I release the pedal and the light is back, STRANGE
- I press the pedal again and notice my brake lights are not working.....
- Both of them blown by the canopy high brake light switch cable short
- Replaced two bulbs and sorted, the ABS light gone
Silly mistake on my side not to check the brake lights first, so we learn.....

Apparently it is a safety feature, ABS light on if no brake lights operational, for obvious reasons. Glad I did not have to buy a new ABS module.

Hope this helps someone...

Thanks Pieter that is good information. I would probably have done the same as you. I tend to want to over complicate a problem sometimes. Especially electrical. I ended up removing my whole diff-lock and stripping it to check if it works only to find one of the two wires to a switch on the gearbox that was broken.
