I didn't read the whole thread, but my understanding of what he's done is just to substitute the starter solenoid (which is a little more than a heavy duty relay) with a Cole Hershee type solenoid (relay). All fine and well in the short term - it will work, but a 30A relay / solenoid is inadequate when you consider that the starter will draw upwards of 90A. Yes, it's just one or two short bursts at a time, but what about the contacts in the relay .... they're not made for that amperage draw and won't last.

Then what if there's an ignition / fuelling problem of some kind and it takes more than just a short cranking burst .... you could quite easily burn out the replacement solenoid as it overheats with a sustained draw that exceeds it's rating.

I would rather replace the original solenoid or have it reconditioned. The contacts in the starter motor also need to be replaced in time and these are by my experience more often than not the source of "click - click" starting problems where you know that the battery itself is not at fault and your connections / earthing are good. :winkx:
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
